4 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise...   August 4, 2007

I watched this reluctantly as I don't normally go for rom-coms due to the fact that they mostly follow the same formula. This however was different ... this was funny! I was bowled over by the quality of the humour and believe me there are some seriously funny moments in there. I haven't laughed as much at a film for some time!

'Something's Gotta Give' is certainly worth the money as you will be guaranteed a good night in with plenty of giggles. Just pop it in the DVD, kick off your shoes and have some fun!

1 out of 5 stars Jack Nicholson should retire   June 25, 2007

I always thought Jack Nicholson was a great actor. In this fim he is emarassingly bad. The story line is ridiculous - many films of this ilk have ridiculous plots but one gets carried along. Not in this case. Avoid like the plague!

5 out of 5 stars Jack Nicholson - A "Shining" Performance   February 8, 2007

Jack Nicholson never ever disappoints, and in "Something's Gotta Give" he again proves he is a master of the "romcom" aswell as every other film genre you can think of.
I loved this total feel good movie, one for a wet Saturday afternoon!

2 out of 5 stars Poor script and unbelievable plot.   February 8, 2007

This film starts promisingly but degenerates quickly. Nicholson's acting talet is not used at all; Keaton is just irritating. The script is plodding and almost witless - the best lines being the "your dad will be OK/your grandad will be OK" exchange. The 2 main characters fall for each other but the reasons why are unclear. A sequence showing them walking along the beach is without dialogue - we have to imagine the meeting of minds? The sequence of them exchanging e-mails is a rip off of "You've Got Mail" but minus the wit and charm of Nora Ephron, the acting ability of Tom Hanks and any sign of chemistry between the 2 actors. The unbelievable part of the plot is not that Nicholson would fall for the gorgeous older woman but that the gorgeous older woman would dump the gorgeous Keanu Reeves for a fat, sweaty, 63 year old with a heart condition. Would you?
