5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Gay Movies around   February 1, 2008

As a young gay guy I found this movie far better than most 'gay interest' movies. I think its much better than other reviewers give it credit for and there's not many DVDs i'd pay 15 for now but this is one of the few I would (and have!). I first saw it when I had a free trial DVD rental and realised straight away that i'd have to buy it. The film is quite slow and subtle but I identified more with the main character than any other gay character i've seen (and I have seen A LOT), there are few of the gay cliches that riddle most films and TV shows and even though the ending was unfulfilling i'd definitely say this film warrants its 5 star rating.

1 out of 5 stars I had to fast forward throught this dvd   January 11, 2008

Yes I agree. I found this film in the local Block Buster. The story sounded great but it was a dull film with dull acting and dull weather (was it winter in Oz when they filmed this?) It did jump around and the weird oral sex thing with the girl under the table while the old granny drank tea just freaked me out!

Yes Midge is cute but can't act and neither could anyone else in the film. After 40 minutes I just fast forwarded stopping at anything slightly interesting. Please don't ever bother with this dvd, its just depressingly bad in the end!

this film was absolutely awful and i am astounded that i managed to even give it a rating! the sotry line was awful and nothing really happened. Whether it was meant to reflect the reality of gay life is not the point because it was absolutely boring and pointless. The inclusion of the main gay character having oral sex with a female was extremely weird and at times no needed. I urge you don't watch this film!

5 out of 5 stars Fab fun film!   November 5, 2007

Tan Lines is a great little film loosely based on the Dickens novel Great Expectations, Midget Hollows is definitely Pip! So it isn't filled with bronzed surfer dudes, just ordinary guys, some really bizarre characters and great Aussie humour. One magazine said that this is what Home and Away should be like, and they're right. It's clever and thoughtful and gives a good insight into small town life in Australia. Love it!
