Excellent guide! April 28, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I found the book very useful on my recent trip to New York. Basic stuff like how to get from the airports into the city, tips on buying tickets for sights and planning my time, were most useful. The fact that it's bang up to date is also really good, giving info on places to go that can be relied upon. Well worth the money.
All the info you require to explore the Big Apple. April 15, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This guide book is packed with everything you need to know to get the most out of your trip to New York. We found the street maps to be a great help, each area scaled onto an A5 page...easy to read and with all the main attractions clearly marked. Restaurant reviews were accurate and well advised and hotel reviews fair (we stayed in three of the recommended hotels whilst there and found the guide book opinion on each to be close to the mark.) This guide also has a really informative chapter on shopping in the Big Apple........Shopaholics beware! Leave space in your luggage when you pack in order to bring back all your glorious booty with no excess charges! Enjoy!!
Great book for first timers to New York March 15, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Got this book prior to travelling and found it extremely helpful took it everywhere. After we got to New York all the information was brillient no problems finding our way around the city, including finding a 'restroom'. Good hints on tiping and other such issues such as no ground floor, they start at first floor. The book only fell down on the size of the subway map which was too small, as was the bus map. I used another map from another tourist book. Highly recommended would have got five stars except for the map.
Very helpful October 1, 2006 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
The Brits Guide to New York covers everything you need to know about the Big Apple....and then some. It starts off with an explanation of the differences between UK English and US English - for instance, fags mean one thing in the UK and a whole other thing in the USA!! It then goes onto explain all you need to know about the different neighbourhoods of NYC, the attractions NYC has to offer, accommodation, eating out, shopping, day trips.....basically everything you'll need to fill your holiday. Throughout it's also got some very helpful Brit Tips for everything from free attractions to where to grab a great sandwich at midnight. If you're a Brit organizing your first trip to NYC then I'd highly recommend this as the definitive guidebook to bring with you.
Get this guide before you go to New York!! September 27, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Great guide, I brought the Brits guide to Orlando and Disneyland in 2003 and and thought if the New York version was as great as that one we'd have no problems when we visited New York. And boy was I right!! the only guide book you will need, packed with info.
