5 out of 5 stars Only just heard about the Foundation series? Read this first   November 10, 1999

This book started me on the foundation journey. Tense, intriguing, and beautiful.

I would suggest that anyone starting the foundation series should start with this book.

This book concerns the acts and actions of the mysterious Second Foundation. Who are they? these mythical gaurdians of psychohistory? Born with strong mentallic abilities; able to change and adjust people's minds?

This is the story of the search for the Second Foundation.

A group of Scientists from the First Foundation seem determined to prove their existence. And at the same time to create a weapon that will nullify their powers. Do they find their proof? Does the Second Foundation exist?

Another man believes it does. That man - the self proclaimed First Citizen; who carved out a empire and defeated the First Foundation. Seemingly unstoppable, able to bend men to his will.

He is determined to find and destroy the Second Foundation rumoured to have been established on Star's End.

Who are the Second Foundation? How do they operate? How can they smooth the turbulence caused in the Seldon Plan by the rise and rule of the First Citizen?

Start your own Foundation Journey with this book. Found at all good book shops, but please try and find a copy with the old (original) covers with the ancient tree drawn by Tim White.

3 out of 5 stars A more than worthy inclusion to the Foundation Series   September 18, 1999

As with all of the best literary series', this is a book that anyone can pick up and enjoy, without having read any of the previous texts. While managing to maintain the same level of excitement and involvment as the rest of the saga , the book introduces a whole new set of ideas which are sure to make an impact on even the lightest of readers. In-fact, the only real criticism that I would have of the book, is that perhaps at times it tries to be just a little too clever. However, all in all, this is still a fantastic addition to Asimov's repetoire.
