Brings back memories May 30, 2008 My dad used to read me this book when I was a baby (I'm now 21) and I'll be reading it to my children (one day). A really beautiful book; gorgeous illustrations, with so much to look at. A must for every child's bookshelf.
lovely book for older babies May 19, 2008 This is such a sweet book, perfect for before bedtime. Both my boys loved this book,in fact my 18 month old who won't sit still for anything, sits motionless from beginning to end.I'm just about to buy copy no 3 as the other two have fallen apart from being read so much, just be prepared to read it again & again & again.............
Delightful May 15, 2008 My wife and I read this with both of our kids from when they were around a year old until they were about four. They're twelve and fourteen now but remember it as one of their favourite books from when they were 'young'. Hours of fun.
How often can a book be read... in a single day? February 19, 2008 My 18-month-old boy demands this book at least three times a day; even after that, if he falls or gets frustrated he will stop crying if I suggest he runs off and fetches it so I can read it to him again. The words have worn tracks in my mind: I can now easily tell him the 'story' in bed without once opening my eyes. He loves the 'story' itself, but also likes pointing at things in the detailed and lovingly drawn pictures ('where's the rabbit? the clock? the sock? where's winbson churchill?')... I'm getting more than a little tired of it now - but its appeal for my lad is unwaning. (I'm a bit mystified at the choice of a London wartime setting, I'll admit, but it doesn't seem to bother children!)
Anyway, highly recommended by young Nicolas - almost as much loved as 'the world's best dive sites'. (Don't ask).

A lovely looking book but I have to say that my 10 month old is not at all interested in it. I have to agree that it is more for adults than children. The pictures are too pale and the story a bit dull. Not good for babies.
