"Been there, thought I'd seen that", now I know differently. June 26, 2001 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Having wandered around the Vendee like a lost soul, some years ago,I vowed not to repeat the same experience and mindful of that I bought Angela Birds guide. There's something for every holidaymaker in this book, our group of seven children and six adults, ranging in age from six to forty, were well served.Thank you Angela.
Makes the holiday June 17, 2001 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book is an invaluable asset to take on any holiday to the Vendee. We have owned a house near St.Gilles Croix de Vie for some years and thought we knew almost everything we needed to know about the area, but we have learnt a whole lot more. I particularly enjoy the way the book is set out in 'area sections' and the 'easy read'.
Order it now and you'll be anticipating a wonderful trip! May 16, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is a rich source of information about what to do in the vendee. It inspires you to explore the region. Without it would you know that you could gaze at a whole lake of lotus flowers there? Written by an author who obviously knows all the charms of the vendee it's a must!
The perfect guidebook for the Vendee May 2, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The author clearly loves the Vendee, this fact shines through every sentence. By the time you've finished your holiday, with the help of this book, you will love the Vendee too. It's got a depth that you just would not believe, every possible tourist destination is here, from the large ones mentioned in every guidebook, to the tiniest roadside memorial, via every market, and museum. From the "Agro-Pastoral Unit" to the Zoo, via the "Salle Panaramique" and the "Velo-Rail". There is also an interesting chapter on the history of the area. Suprisingly bloody given the distance from any borders. If you are going to the Vendee, and want something to do that isn't "lie on the huge sandy beach", get this book.
essential reading for vendee visitors old and new April 26, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Whether you're a first-timer or have been to this part of France's Atlantic coast many times before, you'll find a wealth of facts and useful info in this book. From the history of the Vendee to present-day facilities, it's all here. Angela Bird's book could be improved only by the inclusion of some photos. (Which would of course push-up production and retail costs...) A useful size/weight to take with you...Don't go to the Vendee without it!
