3 out of 5 stars Not bad but NOT really adequate for vegetarian or vegans   July 24, 2005

I know, I know ... it's not specified. In my opinion, there are many more meat / fish dishes than there are vegan / vegetarian ones compared to standard cookbooks, though.
I do like the 'principals and science' part but that's 36 pages (out of 160) plus maybe 20% of the recipes that are suitable for me, make it a 'non-keeper' for me, unfortunately. Maybe there will be a vegetarian / vegan version in the future?

5 out of 5 stars Well written, effective and enjoyable   February 24, 2005

I have never been what you might term fat or overweight, and all I have ever wanted to do was lose half a stone. The problem was that I have lost that half stone many times only to find it returning when I came off my diets.....and so it went on. I tried Ian's first diet book in January 2004 and I lost the half stone ( and a little more ) over a few weeks and, here we are in February 2005, and it has never come back and I am not on a diet at all. The publicity is true - it really doesnt feel like the old fashioned 'diet' that I used to punish myself with. Its just a simple way of eating that I use every day, so much so that I dont even realise I do it.

I bought The Everyday Diet as soon as it was out and it has new information that is presented and communicated with aplomb and humour. The writing is eay to follow so you know what to do, and also why you are doing it, which makes things much, much easier. These two books have helped me understand weight, metabolism and food like never before.

5 out of 5 stars Practical and easy, losing weight steadily now   February 20, 2005

I have tried every diet, lose weight, then always put it back on. I feel that I have been dieting for ever, so when I saw Ian on Richard and Judy ( then Discovery Health, think it was called A List !) I thought 'why not give it a go?'. The fact that he is gorgeous helped grab my attention!

Having followed the 10 principles since January 5th, I have lost over 1 stone and found a new way of eating. I dont feel like I am on a diet at all. I love it, it has completely changed my eating habits, and now I eat more. yes, I eat more and still lose weight and I am not hungry and feel energetic and healthier. On the cover it says 'get off the diet treadmill forever' and its true. Do yourself a favour and do the same. One minor criticism is that I would like even more recipes please. I wish I had found this years ago.

3 out of 5 stars Straight forward but expensive diet   February 12, 2005

Ian Marber presents simple ideas for a sensible healthy eating plan. The 80:20 rule is sensible in avoiding the self-flagellation involved in most diets. However, the ingredients of a postulated balanced diet are expensive and not accessible to people on a low income. In addition, having read this book several times through, I am struck by the self-indulgence involved in this kind of activity, given that millions of people around the world do not have sufficient food to meet even their basic needs. I would recommend this book as an outline of an approach to healthy eating but be warned that the ingredients are not cheap!

A Fantastic Book. A life changing book.
As a participate following the everyday diet on the Richard and Judy show, I have been thrilled with my success.

The book contains the most amazing recipes which are quick and easy to prepare for all the family. It is filled with facts and guidelines on nutritional values and principles which are easy to follow. After looking through the book I was left keen to try a variety of different foods and knew that the future would be one of what shall I try today rather than what can't I eat.

This book has truly changed my life, I shall never be on a diet again, I have a healthy lifestyle forever.
