Baby Food Bible? August 1, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My wife and I found this book TOTALLY INVALUABLE - in other words we had NO IDEA what and when to feed our baby before we read this book. It guided us through the stages of weening with easy to make recipes that have even made there way into OUR menu (especially Sheperds Pie & American Pancakes). OK, a few of the recipes are too complicated and it's not always 'fast food' but it's a good start and our little boy has developed a surprisingly wide & adventurous taste with the help of this book - just don't hope to compete with the authors presentation...
Too fussy! July 25, 2007 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
This book may be ok for the puree recipes but it's way too fussy for toddler meals. I don't have the time or inclination to be making sandwiches shaped like butterflies or pizza with animal faces! Perhaps theses ideas are for getting children to eat who are being fussy? I also think there is a lot of frying and unecessary sugar added to the recipes. Why make 'root vegetable chips' (sprinkled with salt!) which is just showing your child what crisps are when they would have been none the wiser! I also think that a lot of the recipes are very similar but with the odd ingredient changed - such as pasta cartwheels with cheese and broccoli, pasta and hidden veg. and bow tie pasta with ham & peas! These are all within one page of each other. I don't want to begin on the sausage snails which have faces! I'd rather spend more time with my son & let him eat the 'adult' food I am making for the rest of the family. This is a bit of a rant, so to finish, two stars are for the pictures and the nutritional information which is a good touch.
Absolutely BRILLIANT! May 9, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I brought this book to get ideas for meals to wean my daughter with! My daughter LOVES most of the recipes especially the fillet of fish medley and braised beef. I have to admit this is one of my best buys as i brought another book by a different author and my daughter won't eat a thing that i cook from it and to be honest the food didn't look that great! However, I do make larger batches and my partner and I eat the same as our daughter!
Excellent weaning guide; excellent ideas for meals. March 6, 2007 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I liked this book because it contains all the basic information that you need to know, i.e. what foods to start weaning with, what foods to avoid, how much milk to keep giving the baby etc, as well as giving you more advanced help with allergy and nutrition information. It is well presented with easy to follow recipes and it has some lovely ideas for fun foods. My little girl is 9 months old and eats everything I put in front of her and I have little doubt that Annabel Karmel is the reason for this. Friends of mine advised me to get this book (as well as my health visitor) as they told me that they found it a useful guide to nutrition and health for babies and toddlers. I agree. One friend of mine swears by the "fussy eater" section for keeping her little boy alive!
All in all, an excellent book, easy to follow recipes, bright pictures, but most of all a valuable source of information on nutrition for babies and toddlers.
Essential for all parents April 10, 2006 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
As a first time mum, starting to wean my baby was a scary and daunting time, I wanted to make sure her diet gave her everything she needed and was varied so she wouldn't become one of those fussy eaters. This book made weaning her far less intimidating, it covers everything you need to know from recipies to how to cope with the fussy eater. My little girl is only 7 months old and loves everything we put in front of her, and I put this down to using Annabel Karmel's book. The recipies look and taste fantastic, so much so that I have adapted some of them to make food for myself and my husband. I would highly recommend that all parents buy this book to give them inspiration with their childs food, from babies all the way through to toddlers. Fantastic!!
