An essential map for the Barcelona traveller February 23, 2002 37 out of 45 found this review helpful
This map is essential to you if you plan on going to Barcelona and walking around the city as we did. It is double sided and plastic-coated so rain and other spillages can be wiped off without ruining it! One side has a larger view of the city and the other side, including a street plan, focuses on the old section of the city around La Rambla and the Barri Gotic. The map marks tourist attractions and other useful things such as consulates. The Metro underground plan positioned next to the map came in very useful.
A thoroughly good value buy! January 10, 2002 58 out of 64 found this review helpful
Every minute of my 4 days in Barcelona was used effectively due to planning my time using this book. From which train line to get from the Airport, the precise 21 minute journey the book referred to, following the 'Moderinste' walk to view Gaudi to the tapas bar recommended for lunch, to the time of the water fountains - the entire book was first class. If I had to find a criticism, it was that some of the restaurants recommended were closed - there again, I did go the first weekend in January, not an ideal time to visit anywhere! Thoroughly good value buy for anyone visiting Barcelona!
A must for those on the Art Nouveau track September 8, 2000 18 out of 22 found this review helpful
Spending 4 days in Barcelona in August 2000 I found this book very helpful and comprehensive. Particularly the background information on history, art (Picasso, Dali, Miro...) and especially architecture is excellent. If your aim is too see as many Art Nouveau houses as possible you should not go without the excellent map in this guide. The only real drawback to this guide is that there are no cross refences between text and maps, so that the restaurant, museum, shop etc. described in the text can be a bit tricky to locate on the maps in the back of the book. Also, the nightlife section is too brief. On the whole I can highly recommend this guide.
