The HARDEST man in Britain January 10, 2006 73 out of 74 found this review helpful
I have read many crime books based on 'so called' hard men, and I have read most of Stephen Richards books. To date I have been unimpressed with the stores of the McLean's, Kray's, Courtney's etc. I was however impressed with the story of Brian Cockerill. Big Bri is a true hard man and I'd like to see anyone challenge him for the title of hardest man in Britain. As usual Stephen Richards has brought us a real life book that is presented in such a way we can feel part of the experience of Brian. Most other books are written in a way that makes these other hard men 'untouchable'. A definite recomendation. Brian Cockerill, second only to the late Viv Graham.
Good stuff - enjoyed alot January 10, 2006 80 out of 81 found this review helpful
Very good insight into the world that many of us only dream about - real people with real circumstances make it an excellent read for all. Cockerill relays excellently the situation surrounding the life he lived and described the characters positively yet intermately along the way.Very good reading
GOOD READING January 9, 2006 78 out of 79 found this review helpful
Cracking view on life in teeside - real life, real feel, real names. Cockerill claims to be the hardest man - nobody seems to challange that fact? Very interesting raw but effective readingbuy it now
Stunned into silence Definitely 5 STAR * * * * * October 19, 2005 84 out of 87 found this review helpful
Usually such books, as I had expected it to be just another such book, take us on a ride that promises to take us beyond the Galaxy. Well, this book did exactly as it looks to do ... it took me beyond time and space and into another world.Having read just about every type of crime book I could lay my hands on, I flatter myself with the words 'seasoned critic'. From Agatha Christie to Dave 'Stop The Ride' Courtney, I have spent countless hours, weeks or months in a total time spent reading. From that I can usually tell within the first few pages if I am reading a 'turkey'. Here, I read and read and forgot about such use of the word 'turlkey'. Indeed, I was taken into a world that I have not ever read about, the world of taxing drug dealers of their ill-gotten gains by a man brave enough to do it. And judging by the size of the man, I know he would not meet anyone capable of stopping him. This is raw power, real power overload. I am not easily swayed by the words 'hardest', 'toughest', etc. However, this man really has a story to tell and the content is exactly as described on the cover.
