1 out of 5 stars The Visible World   May 19, 2008

Very disappointing. Nothing happens and it's an extremely boring read. I'm sure it was therapeutic for Mark Slouka to write this book but if you're looking for an interesting read - look elsewhere.

Really don't waste your time. Great idea for a book but not a great book.

Boring, pointless and pretentious. How on earth this could be shortlisted for R&J when there are some many far superior books to choose from is beyond me. Dont even bother thinking the book will get better - it doesn't!

1 out of 5 stars Am I missing something?   April 22, 2008

Like many readers here, I found this book a real struggle to read. I really wanted to read it and enjoy it, and because of this I kept persevering until the end. However, I had great difficulty in following the plot and often lost interest. It was definitely, not for me one of the 'just cant put it down' novels. Yes, I agree the author uses lovely, almost poetic prose but reading it was so much hard work that it almost felt like I had to study it to follow the plot. Not an enjoyable read at all!

1 out of 5 stars I read it Because I Felt Sorry For It !   April 15, 2008

I should know better books up for nomination like this are usually like Oscar winning Movies-The only way you can get people to pay to read or watch them.
I was bored stiff from page 1 but I have an awful compulsion to finish a book once I have started it.
Luckily I can speed read & have a pile of really good books waiting to be read,Who pays Richard & Judy to pick up most of the worst books ever written & try & turn them into something good.
1st & last time you'll find me buying anything they recommend-now off to try and read a few more chapters,it has to finish SOON!
26/04/2008 I have finally finisned the ordeal, the final chapter was good but in my mind cut out all the ice, wind & falling leaves & you will have a good short story.!
