I just finished "A Chateau of One's Own" and it was absolutely terrific. I had the pleasure to meet the author and his wife in France one summer and what they did and the resulting tale is truly inspirational. Their undertaking was most highly commendable.
The story amazed me and the strong, sober character of the wife made me want to be better.
Well written.
Captivating.
Fascinating.
Please, don't miss this one! And I can't wait for the next book!
Honest and Extremely Funny! September 10, 2007 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I read this book and thought it was great! The author is a natural! The storytelling was honest, thoughtful, insightful and extremely funny.
There is a bit of everything -- a compelling storyline, a little history of the Loire Valley, history of France, architecture, chateaux life. A very full meal of a book.
The author's conversational style works really well in the written form...his irreverent sense of humor really comes through in the book.
Congratulations...I'm sure this is just the beginning of many books to come. And I can't wait for the next book to see what happens!
Charming and Inspiring. September 9, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
My wife and I recently read "A Chateau of One's Own." We LOVED it. We have passed it on to our grown children and have told all of our friends about it's simple magic.
It is charmingly written. While reading, one really gets the feeling of how amazing it must be to take on a such a project and live in a grand country house. We did something similar (many years ago and on a much smaller scale) -- we only wish we had written about so passionately.
We would love to hear the wife's story too, told from her point of view!
So - this year's birthday/Christmas presents to friends will be a copy of this book.
A charming inspiration!

Having lived as ex-pat in Rome for years, I found Mr. Juneau's book refreshing, insightful and very interesting. The narrative was clean and crisp. Funny characters, wonderful settings and a real sense of what it means to live in Europe. I couldn't recommend the book more highly. A must read!
It can be done! August 13, 2007 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
Wonderful book and charming tale of a couple who realised their dream of owning a chateau in France and providing an idyllic lifestyle for their children. Sam tells it like it is without bursting the bubble. Romantic and dreamy, yet totally practical. A must read for anyone building castles in the air and proof positive of what can be achieved with guts, determination, passion and love. Congratulations.
