5 out of 5 stars Best vegan cookbook I own   February 19, 2008
I got this book (US version) a year and a half ago as a new vegan and it's never let me down. There are recipes in it to impress vegans and meat-eaters alike and it's incredibly refreshing to own a vegan cookbook that packs the punches and isn't all about nut loaves and pasta salad. The mango ginger tofu is incredible, I'll make a batch to last me through the week and never get sick of it and the Big, Gigantoid Crunchy Peanut-Butter Oatmeal cookies are the most delicious cookies I've ever made - I bake them as gifts for people and everyone says how amazing they are!
The bottom line is that this book has a huge amount of very creative dishes, some are a little labour intense but most you can make for week day meals. I've not once regretted buying it and mine is now looking a little dog-eared and food splattered as a result.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic and Unique!   January 26, 2008

Just a note: I have the American version of this cookbook.

I have had this cookbook for about 6 months and it is incredible! The recipes are easy to follow and the author gives substitutions for hard to find ingredients. The majority of the recipes don't take long to make and the dessert section is fantastic. The Fauxstess Cupcakes are especially delicious. The recipes are really unique and lots of fun to make. The author really emphasizes fresh ingredients and steers clear of using fancy gadgets and cookware. Overall, it's really enjoyable and accessible, even for people who are new to being vegan or who are not particularly skilled in the kitchen. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Buy this for the raspberry blackout cake on its own!   December 20, 2007

The title of my review says it all - the first thing I made from it was the Raspberry Blackout Cake with a Ganache-y Icing and it's quite literally the best cake I or my boyfriend have ever tasted. Sponge so smooth and moist it's unbelievable, and the ganache icing is a dream. And it only took one trip to my local supermarket to buy the ingredients - none of the searching high and low for obscure American products that vegan cookbooks often require.

Buy this book and make this cake for every birthday you have coming up. You will make people very happy!

EDIT: I've since tried many more recipes from this book and they're all amazing. Seriously. BUY THIS BOOK!

Great book, with plenty of simple everyday recipes.

No frills Vegan cooking at it's very best.

This book was great, I 'm looking forward to Vegan Cupcakes from the same author.
