1 out of 5 stars Major disappointment   June 15, 2004

I like Shrek the film. It is possibly my favourite film of all time. I knew that when I ordered this film, what I was going to get was what I got. That is, the film plus a new adventure in 3D.

Now, the reasons for the one star. The 3D effect is terrible, and makes watching really unpleasant; the new adventure is only fifteen minutes long; the new adventure is just full of cliches from the film.

But, I got the original film for not dear, and that's primarily what I wanted - though hoped for more.

I realised that it wasnt a new film, but 15 mins of extra footage by reading the sleeve before I bought it! Having only ever seen Shrek on VHS, I was really pleased to get hold of this, and see all the extras in lovely surround sound from my sofa! Definitely worth replacing the vid with the DVD, and you get to wear some silly glasses. My kids, never having seen 3-D before loved it. If it keeps them quiet, then I'm happy. They've watched the film about 10 times already, and similar for the 3D footage

After repeated viewing of Shrek I always find new things that make me chuckle in the film, be it disgusting (using earwax for a candle) or Shrek and Donkey's growning friendhip.

The additional story is also of high quality and the animation has also improved in leaps and bounds (and being in 3d helps give and extra edge). This follow up sets the story perfectly for the upcoming Shrek 2. However for those of you have been on the Shrek 4D ride at universal studio's this will be a disappointment as it is the same story, just without the moving seats and Donkey bogeys!

I bought my shrek 3D thinking it was a totally new movie so i was willing to pay. I get it home and there is a 15 minute bit in 3D which is not 3D just red and blue bits which doesn't look 3D so i think it is rather a waist of time. the other disc is just the original shrek.
