It's important to point out that DVD includes English subtitles for the hard of hearing... and for English learners. As for the plot, acting, etc. SUPERB!! You can't take your eyes off the screen. You'll enjoy Sparkhouse!!
First Class Drama November 12, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Passionate, compelling, tragic, edge-of-your-seat stuff. Genius. Don't get hung up on it being a re-do of Wuthering Heights. A fantastic modern drama in its own right. Utterly watchable.
An outstanding mini-series. September 2, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought "Sparkhouse" on the basis of reviews only, as I had never seen it here in Australia. This is completely worth its 5 star rating - it was not entirely what I expected, but I was riveted to this dark and violent tale of love and obsession. The parallels to "Wuthering heights" are obvious but not overplayed, and the entire cast is incredibly good. Brilliant!
Compelling viewing for a mature audience August 12, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a riveting short series about class, passion, emotional honesty, getting a raw deal in life, and trying to make the best of what it brings you. Once I started watching it, I had to finish the whole thing. The entire cast is great, particularly Sarah Smart, and the setting in the West Yorkshire moors is amazing. "Sparkhouse" evokes so much about "Wuthering Heights" while telling a compelling contemporary story. I wish they produced fare like this on American TV. Not in my lifetime! Hooray for the BBC for continuing to honor British literary heritage with stunning powerhouse dramas like this.

I bought this DVD as I am a devoted Richard Armitage fan.I must admit I was duly surprised by the fantastic filming and acting of all the performers. It held me spellbound, as the plot and love story wove through the beautiful scenery of Hebden Bridge. Stunning performances from SARAH SMART and RICHARD ARMITAGE, JOE MCFADDEN.British cinema at its best******
