5 out of 5 stars A great book for the early history of the British Navy.   December 14, 1999
A thoroughly good read which details the history of the British Navy from the 7th to the 17th century.

4 out of 5 stars A monumental work   December 30, 1998

N A M Rodger has laid an excellent foundation with this first volume, of what promises to be an important series. This history looks at the whole subject of evolving and using Naval power, through the political, economic and social aspects of the times. Invaluable to the serious student of British Naval history.
