5 out of 5 stars A Great Brits guide to Orlando   May 15, 2003

We used this fine publication almost exclusively to plan nearly all the elements of our 2 week holiday and the sound advice contained within went a long way to ensuring we got the best out of excursions.Whilst the ever developing and changing nature of Orlando meant a small proportion of the information was out of date, the 98% that was accurate was invaluable. We followed rigidly the advice on which days to hit which Parks and the strategy for each and benefitted greatly from it, despite our first visit at a "quiet" Magic Kingdom being a complete hell swarm of people, we stayed faithful to the plan and were not disappointed.Trust this man, he knows his stuff!
Suffice to say we are already planning next years trip using this Good Book and the benefit of this years experience.

We've just come back from our first trip to Florida and brought back, as well as many happy memories, an extremely well thumbed copy of this book. We didn't know which guide book would be best, when we bought it, as one very much looks like another on the shelf, however, we wanted something that not only was useful, but that we could trust to plan our holiday. It turned out to be one of the best investments we have made. The information was not only informative on the more obvious aspects of the region, such as hotels, resorts, parks, etc. but also went into minute detail on other aspects, very pertinent to the Brit abroad, such as traffic lights, road signs (I still can't believe I could turn right on a red light !!!), tipping and currency (same colour bank notes !).

We would meticulously plan our days the night before and then review what we had just seen the next night by re-reading the relevant section. We followed the book so much that we tended to use it like a kind of "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" for Florida, not going to places or eating at restaurants that were not favourably recommended.

I even had a question that was troubling me, so I e-mailed the author, not expecting a response, but surprise, surprise, had my answer straight away.

A great read. Florida lovers, ignore this book at your own risk !

This book was a tremendous help both in planning our holiday and while we were there. It is detailed, friendly and never patronising, full of useful tips. Also very easy to read. We would not have had such a good holiday without this book!

I've recently returned from my seventh trip to Orlando with an eighth in the early stages of planning. Simon Veness's guide has accompanied me on four of them and you can be sure the latest edition will be well-thumbed by the time I come to pack it in my suitcase. From my first trip in 1992 through to my third in 1998, I overlooked "A Brit's Guide" in favour of the usual suspects - Fodor's, Fromer's, et al. Whilst I continue to buy them all (well, I am a guide book junkie), "A Brit's Guide" thoroughly trounces the competition in that it is the only guide written for Brit's by a Brit - an enormous and obvious benefit for the reader, albeit one that passed me by for far too long. Don't make the same mistake!

The 2003 edition is packed with the usual reviews and sound advice. Simon Veness has it all covered: Disney, Universal and everything beyond. For first-timers, the advice on driving, accommodation and the two Orlando airports is invaluable. You simply won't find this stuff in the American guides. These days I use mine as a reference tool, although I can never resist reading from cover to cover when it first arrives - I just love learning about what's new in Orlando.

Simon Veness is the eyes and ears of the Brit in Orlando. If he doesn't know about it, believe me it's a non-event.

5 out of 5 stars The best holiday guide ever!   January 21, 2003

This book contains invaluable information which you really need to fully enjoy your time in Orlando. It contains tips, hints and recommendations for everything you need, from food, to entertainment, to the best way to approach the theme parks. The book is laid out in a really handy and useful way and is really the only guide book you will need when visiting Orlando. By far the best page is towards the back of the book which informs you of the busiest and quietest days at the theme parks. It was spot on everytime.

This book has obviously been written by someone who knows the place well and really wants you to get the most out of your holiday - unlike other guide books! The fact that it is written from a Brit's point of view makes it even more useful.
