top tip for visitors to the Vendee May 1, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Angela Bird obviously loves the Vendee and one cannot fault her knowledge, but unlike many guide books she 'calls a spade a spade'. If she says something is worth visiting, she is generally accurate and because she does not try to make everything sound like the new location for the hanging gardens of Babylon, it is easy to prioritise one's trips. With a family that has to value it's infrequent time in the region, that is very useful. I have given it 4 stars because no guide book can be as good as being there!
Good Value Guide to the Vendee February 6, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
We got this book having been to the St.Gilles area several times and it added a new dimension for me. Now as regular visitors we frequently dip into this for ideas on things to do or general background information. Even if you only intend going once I would buy this book, it is light, accessible, informative and fun to read.
Essential for a holiday in the Vendee June 22, 2005 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
This year was our third visit to the Vendee and when I saw that Angela Bird had a new edition of her book, I immediately ordered it. It did not disappoint. With two young children (3 and 5) you need to be well-organised with day trips and alternative options when the weather is poor. This book gave us all the information about where to visit, how much things would cost, opening hours, where to eat. The three other families with us were continually borrowing it. It is essential reading to get the best out of the region.
An excellent help January 24, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
A really helpful book - both before and during our visit. Allowed us to discover lots of great things to see and do that are not in the normal tourist publications
Excellent Book - Don't leave home without it September 23, 2004 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
For a first time visit to this part of France with children this book was a lifesaver. Whatever the weather there was always something to do or somewhere to go listed in the book. Any town or village we went through seemed to be listed along with usful and interesting details (and great restaurants). It was required reading every evening to plan for the next days activities. Shame it wasn't available (I didn't see it) in the region as my copy seemed to get borrowed by most Brits on the campsite.
