i thought i was going mad until i read these reviews! i hunted for the instructions on playing the game (its been a few years since i have played monopoly), houses and hotels, title deeds etc, but it seems this version doesnt have theese - little point then to playing.
the paper is poor quality, the lovely monopoly pieces i expected to find (dog, hat, car etc) are replaced by 4 plastic pegs....
i would agree, best to buy the original and just put sticky tape over the names of the roads to customise it for yourself.
very dissapointing. best but was thinking up rude place names for the board and customising the 'community chest' alternative cards, though even the scope to customise the game is limited.
very poor show overall. shame.
Good family fun June 8, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
What some of the reviewers have missed is the family fun to be had in making the game, working out the humorous chance cards, and being able to put together sets of properties which reflect all aspects of family life, schools, jobs, favourite holiday places etc. Done well, it will be one of those old games in the cupboard that gets brought out for years to come just for prosperity sake. We had great fun assigning all sorts of photos etc to the game. Its highly personalised and great fun.
What are you expecting? June 5, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Echo the comments about the quality of some of the materials - but that's easily solved if you're really that bothered about thickness of card(!). The software is a bit clunky but works fine. With a bit of care, this is a good and inexpensive way to produce an original gift which the recipient will probably love - as long as you're prepared to put some time and thought into how you customise it. In this case, it really is the thought that counts and people who are disappointed because it isn't really Monopoly have completely missed the point!
Opoly is based on Monopoly but it is NOT the same! February 1, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I can only echo everything that audreid has already said: On the negative side, the quality of the materials is pretty poor - cheap card and plastic pieces. The lottery squares seem unnecessarily complicated especially for kids. The finished game is VERY limited - can't buy houses or anything for the properties.
I resorted to buying a set of the original Monopoly pieces, hotels etc, and designing my own title deeds.
And if I wanted to ever do the same thing again I think I would also buy an ordinary monopoly set, some card and sticky paper, a bit of imagination and give it a personal revamp myself!
Fantastic gift June 26, 2006 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
I was given one of these as leaving present - it proved to be a fantastic personalised gift which I really appreciated. Looked very professional and was a lot of fun.
