4 out of 5 stars Excellent little device for the money   June 18, 2008
Received this today, plugged it in, was recongised as a "new device" and installed itself. Then simply plugged in a webcam, iPod, scanner and Blackberry. Possibly this overloaded it a tad as the scanner did not seem to kick in (I noted previous reviews about power consumption - you can buy separately an external power supply to connect to the device if you wish), however when I removed the Blackberry I could scan, transfer files to the iPod and watch myself on the webcam. Highly unlikely that I would use more than 2 devices at the same time so it does exactly what I want it to, i.e. save me having to relentlesly unplug and re-plug in devices to my USB ports.

Would have liked a longer cable (only a couple of centimeters) but considering the cost, I think this device is very well worth the money - it was delivered in 2 days, so very quick service too.

1 out of 5 stars Beware - power adapter may be needed   April 29, 2008

Sorry I have to disagree with previous reviewers this product is useless.

I bought this USB pocket hub to connect a mouse, printer and external hard drive to my Compaq Evo notebook, except often the notebook does not recognise that one or more of these items is connected. After wasting several hours plugging in and unplugging cables I emailed Kensington Europe's customer support for their advice and they replied:

"Thank you for your inquiry. You need a powered hub. The USBport only delivers 5Volts at 500mA. If you add too many devices to your USBport there are no sufficient resources to supply all the devices with enough power and therefore your devices are not being recognised. Do you have a connector socket on the hub, so that an adapter can be inserted? We hope that your question has been answered to your satisfaction. Should you have further questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us again."

I replied to them, asking for the price and part number of the power supply but my email bounced back with the message that the email address didn't exist.

What is the point of having four USB sockets on a product if it can't cope with having three items plugged in. This is pathetic!

4 out of 5 stars A good product   April 25, 2008

No problems as far as its functioning is concerned. You may however find that the USB slots are too close to each other if you're thinking of plugging in anything else than USB plugs into it (eg. plugging in 2 USB memory keys next to each other may be impossible)

5 out of 5 stars Small and has optional power   March 21, 2008
Nice little unit that works fine without a separate power supply. However, it will take a DC power source to power USB devices if necessary. Doesn't come with a power lead so you'll need a compatible one.

Works well. So far have used logitech mx revolution mouse and an ipod and both have worked great.

But, my Western Digital 250gb passport external hard drive does not work whilst plugged into this. As it needs alot of power from the usb so similar hard drives might not work either.

The cable is about an inch long. And it seems to face in the direction facing your computer screen say if you were using a laptop with usb ports on the left hand side, not toward you.

Yeah a solid usb adaptor no major problems with it, does it's job well.

(Btw, I'm on a mac so anyone worried it will only work for windows or something similar, no worries.)
