my first player October 9, 2008 bought this after reading reviews. I was not disappointed. I am still finding things it will do.I use it mainly for podcasts (the sound is so clear} but I have photos and videos stored too.The SD card facility is an amazing way of storing info. and I find the radio excellent. It does more than it says 'on the tin' !
Next time I'll buy an ipod October 8, 2008 At first I loved it: easy to use, nice big screen, good video quality, but it broke after 2 months of careful handling (it was playing one minute, gone the next - I just couln't turn it on anymore). When the replacement came, they wouldn't replace the sticker I had bought to protect the screen and I was really upset to find that within a day the screen was damaged (not to mention the added cost in time, money and hassle of shipping the old one and buying a new protector).
Good points: - nice size, weight and shape - easy-to-use - not as marketing-hyped as the ipod - good quality audio and video
Bad points - screen is ridiculously fragile given it's its main feature- it should come with a screen protector - 5 quid for a sticker is ridiculous - I don't make much use of the video capacity as videos are harder to come by than audio - You can't see what's playing if the controls are locked - You can't turn the sound up easily if it's in your pocket (you'd have to buy the headphones that have volume control) - You can't add an individual song you're listening to to a playlist, instead it adds the whole album - It's too expensive to be so delicate and limited in its functionality - I might be going mad, but I thought the first one I had constantly displayed the time at the top of the screen, but this one doesn't. Either way, it would be handy if it were visible.
I used to have a Zen Micro which lasted for 3 years and the screen stayed perfect. I think you could also see what was playing when the controls were locked; a pity this one doesn't have that feature.
In general, I'm a bit disappointed with this one. I think the bad experience I had of it breaking so quickly and the hassle and expense of getting a replacement has made me lose interest in it, I expected it to be a lot sturdier and longer-lasting for 90 quid, my investment hasn't been worth it in my opinion.
Great player September 22, 2008 After many reviews of different players (nearly bought the Sony), I opted for the Zen for its core features + the SD drive and the radio. I've had it over a month now - also bought the leather case - and it's an excellent player, esp with some decent in-ear headphones which really bring out the player's detail and bass. No problems at all (touchwood!) - have used MS mediaplayer to download my music rather than the Zen s/w, which work well. Haven't been able to create playlists on the Zen (used mediaplayer instead) and there is a limited amount of peripherals v ipod, so overall have rated it a 4 stars (it's really a 4.5 but couldn't score that). But great value for the price. Recommended.

Be very careful when you use this product as failure is very easy and recovery very difficult. It's rather like an insurance policy, what really matters is what do they do when things go wrong. In the case of these ZEN products they are very difficult (impossible) to contact directly and do not respond to email enquiries in a way which makes any real sense. They do not appear even to read the email and the reply seems to be automatically generated. When such things work they are very good. But when they fail it's very expensive and hugely dissapointing.
I'm unconvinced.... September 12, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Firstly, this is a great product if you're looking for something with the same kind of features as an iPod but has twice the memory at half the price. But before you buy one you should consider this: if you've downloaded a lot of music from iTunes you should be aware that quite a lot of it might not play on the Creative MP3 player. Much of the music you download from iTunes is copy protected and will only play on an iPod. When you try to import it using the management software that comes with it you don't even get an error message. And the 'customer support' is worse than useless. It takes a full working day to get an answer - it took me 4 days and 4 emails for them just to read my message right. (The short answer to my question was that, no, you can't play these copy protected files on this MP3 player).
I thought I'd got a bargain but now I'm not so sure.
