5 out of 5 stars Why are people so critical of this item - it's superb!   June 11, 2008

After much time spent reviewing websites and reading personal comments on different photo frames, I decided to bite the bullet and buy this 10.2" frame from Amazon for my sister. I paid 90 (quite a good deal) bearing in mind that it's now 137.33! The problem with reading personal reviews is that people either don't have a clue what they're doing or they're ultra critical. Correct, this is a widescreen (16:9) aspect screen. Photos are generally taken in 3:2 or 4:3 but a lot of cameras these days can take widescreen pictures (e.g. Panasonic compacts). Yes, the battery may only last an hour or an hour and a half. How long do you expect it to last for? You don't run your LCD monitor/TV at home on batteries now do you? The screen is an actual 10.2", unlike my 8" Linx which measures 7.3" on the diagonal (it dwarfs my 8" in fact). This is one thing to be wary of when buying digital photo frames. Some specify the frame, others the screen diagonal. This screen is very large, with a great resolution (800x480). Contrast and brightness are very good (similar to my 8" one). Even when looking really close, the picture is still sharp. I find it strange that people whinge about trivial things like menus and cropping pictures. What do you expect to do with your pictures taken on 8+ megapixel cameras? This screen is only 0.384 megapixels! Of course you will need to crop them to make them look perfect. Just get your pictures and plug 'em in! I used an SD stick and found the pictures to look great. Neither did it wipe them! This frame has slots for XD, MMC, MS and SD. You can also plug in USB devices too. Realistically, how much time do you actually spend on the menu... This device comes with a handy little remote too which I think is much more useful than getting a frame with touch controls on the device itself. For the money I think this item is superb. I don't think I could have got as good a frame for the money I paid. I was also looking at a 7" Toshiba TekBright frame for 80 from PC World and I'm glad I went for this one for the extra 10! Stop pondering on all these silly, over critical reviews and just go for one, you won't regret it!

5 out of 5 stars Dont listen to the tech phobics!   February 11, 2008

This is a great product. The 16:9 display is great. There are loads of options to change display modes. Interface on it's side is what you would get from most large LCDs, the little remote fits nicely behind the frame when wall mounted. This is a little TV with Card reader. The built in rechargeable battery lasts for a good 1.5hrs. The neon blue light on the side is not over powering and turns a subtle red when in standby. I was impressed with build qaulity, the sound is loud and bass strong when playing family movies from all sources.

I don't think the reviewers who gave this a low rating where aware of all of its features or must have paid a lot more than the 109 that I did. I didn't have to read the manual, its operation is straight forward. But looking through the manual at the mo, its well presented.
I am a fussy gadget freak... and this is value for money!

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed   January 18, 2008

My wife bought me this frame back in November for my birthday yesterday when I unpacked it and tried to get going! The manual is a joke. It would not connect to my PC and I could not even ascertain after several hours of trying how to delete the pictutes already loaded on the internal memory. I then read the other reviews posted on Amazon since Christmas and found I am not the only one to have similar problems. Thanks to the great Amazon returns policy-extended to the end of January to cover early purchases like mine before Christmas, I am shipping it straight back for a refund. The process of the returns labels and linking direct to DHL to arrange pick up for return has been easy. Well done Amazon for great service. Not so well done Linx for trying to sell a product that either does not work properly, comes without the necessaary equipment or a manual that cannot be described as one!!

Bought this for my husband for xmas- hah!
Spent 2 days trying to a) figure out the manual
b) find the copy menu

c) copy photos from my memory stick to the internal memory.

I had assumed (never assume) it would connect to my PC, when it didn't I thought I'd transfer my photos via the USB stick.

In the end i gave up and returned the item. My husband comments that if I can't do it (20 years in the computing trade) he certainly won't be able to!

It's probable fine for those who just have a card from their camera. having now read the comments I'm glad to have got rid of it.
Must say Amazon's return mechanism is a joy and works a dream.

Jenny
