2 out of 5 stars You can get results - for as long as this flimsy device lasts   September 22, 2008
I am a regular gym-goer, but tend to focus on endurance training - treadmill, cross-trainer, rower and stepper and so I thought this simple device would complement my fitness regime.

On the plus side I will freely acknowledge that I did achieve modest but noticeable results using 6 Second Abs. After around 10 days of following the exercise regime rigorously, I honestly did find my jeans feeling a bit loose around the waist. Furthermore, on trying the abs crunch machine at the gym, I found I could easily pull an extra 5kg. Great I thought! Let's increase the 6 Second Abs' resistance to the maximum (orange bands) for all exercises and here's where the trouble began. First one of the plastic end pieces pulled off one of the resistance bands. So I continued with medium resistance (one yellow, one orange). This felt a tad too easy on every exercise except the 'reverse crunch', where you lean back in a chair and pull your knees up against the device. Then, a couple of weeks later in the midst of this exercise, one of the handles of the device snapped off flush with the body! I was disappointed to see the construction of 6 Second Abs was just hollow plastic with no noticeable reinforcement at the highly-stressed handles and, all in all, it was surprising that the device lasted as long as it did (around 2 months).

Seeing 6 Second Abs on sale at my local street market for 5, I replaced my broken one and the new one has had no major failure after a week's usage, although, annoyingly, the front panel keeps flipping open and slamming shut during the exercises, as the front catch is nothing more than a slightly raised ridge on the moulding.

So, to summarise, you WILL get some positive results if you use this device regularly, but only at the highest resistance levels (the yellow bands are virtually useless) and don't expect it to last more than a couple of months. The build quality is very poor and, if you intend using it every day, expect to get through maybe 5 or 6 devices a year. It does strike me as rather wasteful and eco-unfriendly to keep replacing the device like this. I would be willing to pay considerably more for a more robust version of the device.

3 out of 5 stars 6 second Abs- Has potential but bands too weak.   August 26, 2008
I bought one of these machines-probably a knock-off. The device works but the power levels are way too low. I am 80Kg and a bit wimpy and could fairly easily get to the maximum resistance. I did feel the Abs work though. My daughter who is 4 was able to do a few cruches too! I suspect that there are many varible quality copies which all claim to be the original. It may be that the actual device does a good job particularly if the resistance is larger.

1 out of 5 stars SNAP!!!!   July 8, 2008
Well, I'm a 27 year old guy who for some reason yo yo's weight all over the place. When I was 18/19 it was gym everyday plus aerobic sport but as the age and a series of comforatable relationships advance the weight can't help but cunningly slip on without noticing.

So, as a result, I'm not particually over weight but love handles etc have become to get me down a bit esp when i used to have a toned stomach. So, in wanting to regain this and not having a load of time I do 25km a day on my exercise bike, 1hr20mins a day squash, weights down the gym focusing on different areas alternate days and to get the edge coz i had doing ab work down the gym I couldn't resist the 15x more effective as a regular cruch claim!!! So, if you're anything like me, here is my review!!!

Ok, so I paid something like 14 inc delievery so wasn't expecting much. Having got it out the box i notice inside there were the resistance springs rolling around. I thought it was due to transit so opened it up, with the sound of an almighty crack and put them in place. So, I notice, due to this crack when the machine was in use depending on the exercise the front panel kept opening. But the click mech worked ok so I gave it a go. I popped in the copied DVD-R disc that came with it and found only half the routine worked.....so I did the ab workout. The cardio workout didn't work and curiously the guy kept saying the floor exercises would be shown elsewhere on the DVD but they were not!

I did the workout in seated position as demonstrated and even with the highest resistance level only one exercise, the leg raises actually gave me any tension in my abs.

I decided to adapt and move these to the floor and I have to say.....this was a GOOD workout. Every exercise hit the spot and for this I thought the money was well worth it despite shoddy craftsmanship! On the second day after my routine I went back to to the floor and the final crunch of my final set one of the massive plastic handles snapped clean off!!!!

Due to this I realised the same kinda thing would happen should I have bought a new one. It was at the highest resistance level but should have withstood the workout. I was trying to get to the all important third click but due to this and the front pannel coming off I have decided to award this only one star. You can do various floor exercises to get the same workout. I have since purchased an ab toning belt which having spent a little more money (50) and working with various floor exercises I have seen an improvement with no chance of breaking.

This unit is a good idea but missed the mark due to poor construction!!

I can only comment on the 6 second abs machine I purchased as there seem to be knock off ones in abundance. Got mine under the name of Pro Fitness Ab compactor which is the UK version of the same product by BENYSPORTS care of argos for 10 with a 4 charge for the red high impact bands. Much cheaper than anyone else might I add. It is a piece of moulded plastic and yes it does appear quite cheaply made but then it is not meant to be a designer display piece. My first few attempts did not seem to work but I then found my posture was wrong and when you do get the action right it certainly works. It will never get you the six pack shown on all advertisements but then I was not expecting it to. Much better than traditional sit ups or roll bars although the clicking does get annoying after a while.
