4 out of 5 stars A Good Machine   June 11, 2007

I can't believe some of the comments written about this machine. I have owned and been using this machine daily for several years.
The only down side to this machine is that the water tank is not big enough if you use it as often as we do.
I purchased a double size water tank that fits this machine as we use this machine quite a bit, I don't know how we ever managed with the small water tank!
You can get a tea pod holder. You can also buy refillable pod adapters so you can use your own loose ground coffee these work really well.
As for the coffee not being very hot? We filter our water and leave the filter on a work top so the water can vary from cold to room temperature, I have my coffee black and my Husband has his white we've never had a problem with the coffee not being hot enough!
As for strength you can use Senseo Pods, Kenco Pods, Tesco Pods (look on line & get them direct from Holland), in fact any you can find that are of this type, with a variety of strengths including de-cafe & flavoured pods.
Senseo now do an extra dark, cappuccino & latte pods, and you can even get a variety of tea pods.
It makes a great small coffee, for times when you want that small extra strong after dinner coffee.
Reason for four stars because of the water tank that comes with it, and you have restricted height for your coffee cup, but shop around for a good one that fits.

4 out of 5 stars Great coffee flavour   March 24, 2006

I am of German origin and have always found it hard to come to terms with instant coffee as we only drink freshly brewed coffee on the continent.
Therefore I bought the Senseo and found that it produces EXCELLENT coffee with a full bodied aroma. They have several coffee varieties on offer, they've even now introduced speciality coffees!
Another good thing is the low wastage! Other machines might offer cappuccino etc. but use little plastic cups whereas the Senseo use coffee pads (similar to tea bags).

However, there is one thing which I think they could approve upon. It is unfortunately not possible use large coffee mugs as the machine has been designed for coffee cups.

1 out of 5 stars Bought yesterday, going back today.   November 13, 2005

I bought a Senseo yesterday and after trying a couple of coups of coffee, it is going back today. I expected it to be similar to continental coffee after the reviews I read, and I was sorely disappointed.

The coffee is weak, I even tried two pods for one cup, and it's only just hot enough to drink. The creme layer is almost non-existent.

Not impressed at all. If you are looking for the sort of quality of coffee I was, don't bother. If you want a flash, expensive filter coffee maker that doesn't taste as good as a cafetiere, this might be the one for you.

5 out of 5 stars Delicious coffee in seconds - cute machine too!   October 15, 2005

I wasn't too sure when I saw the adverts for this machine if it wasn't just another gimmick. I bought a different machine by a different manufacturer a while ago and not only did the coffee have a strange chemical taste (it wasn't a pod machine, it just used fresh ground coffee), it also packed up completely after a couple of months of use! All I wanted was an easy, but real tasting cup of coffee!
Based on the good reviews of the Senseo, I decided to give it a go. So far, I am very, very pleased with it's performance AND the quality and flavour of the coffee. I'm not going to lie to you, the crema layer isn't technically a proper crema layer but it does the job and I like it. I couldn't really imagine a machine like this could give a proper crema layer as it is not really an espresso machine, but for the money and quality of the coffee it produces, it is well worth it. If you are looking for a proper espresso, then my advice would be to get a proper espresso machine. If, like me, all you want is a really good cup of coffee (and you're not bothered by a crema layer that only lasts a few sips) then the Senseo is for you!
The machine could not be easier to use. You just fill up the tank, put in a coffee pod, put a cup under the spout, press the power button and then choose the 1 or 2 cup option and you're off! Be aware that the Senseo does not come with the 2 little white cups that are pictured with it but regular sized espresso cups work fine, or if you wanted to add milk, a small mug would work too.
The coffee pods are available in most major supermarkets but there are also places on the web that sell the flavoured versions that are only available on the continent. I went to e-bay and bought some at first but the shipping is quite high, then I just googled "coffee pods" in the UK and found several sites that offer the same pods as on e-bay but for a fraction of the cost and p&p.

2 out of 5 stars Quick but thats about it   September 14, 2005

If you're looking for something quick and better then instant (not that that takes much beating) then this aint to bad. But as coffee makers go this isn't really to bril.

The major problem in regards to great coffee is the pods themselves. Ironicaly Philps make a big song and dance that Douwe Egberts make the coffee, who ae hardly a supior roaster, the only amazing thing about their coffee is that they ship such large amounts of it. Now to be fair if you look around you can get other coffee pods that work with philps machine however you're still going to get far better results with a more normal coffee machine, percolator or french press. Simple because there is a findermental flaw and that is their pods! You basically get the same problem you do with tea bags, it restricts the brewing process. And the biggest problem if you want a real fresh cup of coffee, as it's pre ground beans their not very fresh.
