2 out of 5 stars Coffee good, when it makes it to the jug!   May 25, 2008
The actual unit makes good coffee, and it's neat and compact, but the fact that the jug has a plastic lid is its downfall. The "bubble" on top of the lid is the bit that causes the hot water to drain into the jug having been poured through the coffee grains, but this is only attached by tiny pieces of plastic which eventually break. Once one of the sides of the "bubble" comes adrift, then the mechanism no longer works, and the coffee is stuck above the jug! We ordered a replacement jug just before New Year 2007, and are still waiting at the end of May 2008, with no hope of it coming into stock. We have just given up, and have ordered a new coffee maker with a stainless steel lid, and the whole new unit cost just 7 more than the cost of the replacement part! Speaks for itself!

2 out of 5 stars Great coffee, average to good machine   November 18, 2007

I like this machine, did have a problem with one I ordered but amazon replaced it. You can use paper filters but they need trimming a little, the coffee is hot and well made, not a perfect machine but great value for the price.

5 out of 5 stars Been running for 18 months with no problems   October 12, 2007

I see others have had issues with this machine so I guess I can count myself lucky that I've had mine over 18 months and it has been faultless, I'd say it's used twice a week on average.

Decent quality filter coffee machines are hard to find these days with all this coffee pod nonsense. The kenwood provides good tasting coffee everytime, though I would say that the hotplate is a little too hot if the coffee is left to stand for a while. Yes the unit is tall but it fits on my counter unit fine. The reusable filter is adequate but disposable ones are better. On the whole for the 24.99 I paid I've been very happy and this'll keep me going until I win the lottery and can afford a Jura!

2 out of 5 stars Good Coffee. Poor Quality Machine.   July 23, 2007

This is the 3rd Kenwood CM651 I have purchased and all 3 have now had some issue (similar) so you ask why did I purchase it again, who knows, perhaps because the coffee always tasted good and was hot.

The above aside, the main issue for all 3 is that the water seems to get stuck and not drain through to the filter or it gets stuck in its compartment which leads to a wasted batch or two of coffee every time or coffee that once it does make it into the pot, is quite harsh and filled with grains.

When this machine works, it's great but since it is so unreliable...3 strikes and you are out.

2 out of 5 stars Too tall   January 10, 2006

The worst aspect of this product is that it is taller than typical coffee makers, yet the water has to go in the top - this means that it cannot sit underneath a wall cabinet.

It made good hot coffee but the filter compartment has no clearance at the top, which means that it is not suitable for using filter papers as they tend to get squashed over sideways by the closing of the door, and then the hot water just goes down the outside of the filter paper.

As I like to use coarse ground coffee in a paper rather than the nylon filter supplied, I got rid of this unit for a better designed one.
