Looks good, but doesn't do a great job! March 15, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have never considered reviewing a toaster, but now i'm comparing everybody elses reviews whilst I choose a new toaster. Therefore I thought I should let you know why i'm getting a new one; - Slices of bread need to be turned 180 degrees to cook the top! - One side browns more than the other - It takes a long time, its slower than a grill - Its huge! So i'm trying to find something a little smaller and less gimicky, that just gets on and quickly makes me some golden brown toast!
Looks Amazing - Toasts Terribly February 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have given this product 2 stars purley for its design and how it looks. It does look pretty cool in my kitchen with the matching kettle but that is all the positive words I can muster. It takes at least 5 minutes to lightly toast bread, it's uneven and just in general poor at what it does. I shelved a Dualit toaster for the Delonghi and will be shelving the Delonghi soon!
Two poor quality toasters joined at the hip December 21, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Not sure where all the 5-star reviews on here originate, but the DeLonghi Metropolis I had was the proverbial pig wearing lipstick. While it's a great idea to have separate arms and separate browning controls, it's about 25% too big, all the buttons and rotary dials on the front feel like they've fallen off a Citroen Saxo, and like a lot of mainstream toasters it cooks unevenly and makes you wait around for an age while it does so. It would be quicker to open your CD drive, place the bread on the tray and warm it inside your PC.
In summary, if you can imagine a pair of seriously cheap 2-slice machines stuck together like Siamese twins, you'll have a pretty good idea of what the Metropolis is like. And then not buy it.
== Update == Having returned this last item week, I've recently bought the KitchenAid Artisan 4-Slice Toaster which has turned out to be the premium product we all think we're buying when we mistakenly choose Dualits and DeLonghis. It's a genuine high-grade item and is also available on Amazon, have a look!
Reliable and stunning looks July 23, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've had mine for over 3 years now and never had any problems with reliability or broken/faulty parts. It toasts bread fully and evenly (which is a challenge for many cheapy toasters) and whilst I admit some of the controls do not feel substantial, in three years they have not failed or broken. It reminds me of a 1970's Datsun - reliable, perfectly designed, and never goes wrong but some people can't help sneer as they rush back to their "more solid" competitors costing twice as much. But I have the last laugh - because I have yet to find a better looking toaster to sit on my worktop. Dualit included.
Like your toast unevenly toasted??? June 2, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Got this as a present after having it on our wishlist, and was chuffed with the looks of it... However, after about three weeeks the left side slots stopped working as the switch broke or something. Then we noticed that the slots on the right side would toast one side more than the other. The wires would be glowing more on one side, and hardly change colour from their standard cold black/grey on the other side. Hence we are returning this after about 6 weeks use, and will not be requesting a replacement toaster of the same make. Can it really be true that we have to shell out copious amounts for a quality Dualit toaster???
