Henry's part of the family :) May 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We bought our Henry hound about 2 1/2 years ago now after having two vax vacuums that only lasted just over a year. Henry has been a revelation!!
He has been the best vacuum ever, we have just finished our house build and poor Henry has been used for cleaning up plaster, sand, brick dust, screws and nails, wood shavings etc. Now we are going back to using him as a domestic appliance and apart from the paint stain on his case, you would never know how much he has been used - day in day out for 18 months on a building site!
Fantastic power yet quiet motor. We always use the dust bags which hold a large volume they are worth the money as our previous vacuums were bagless and emptying the compartment was not pleasant.
Highly recommended, reliable, quiet + powerful.
Great product.......eventually February 13, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this product largely based upon reviews from this and other consumer sites, to replace our failing DC08 Animal. We have a border collie and our home is 70% carpeted so hair pickup was essential.
After delivery, I ripped open the box with an eagerness matched only by the anguish my wife as she cried "what are you doing? It may not work you know!". Silly girl. I knew the machine would work. I slid the metal pipes together admiring the satisfying click as each section locked together. I took a step forwards, pushed the on button and....well that's it. Nothing. Convinced of my stupidity rather than poor quality control at Numatic I called customer services who told me my machine was manufactured in September 2006 and that it would have to go back to the supplier. OK. I reassembled the shredded box and back it went.
My replacement arrived only 3 days later and to my wife's horror I rinsed and repeated, assured that I was unlucky last time. To be sure, the machine switched on. All looked good, until I tried the electric floor head. No joy. So, Numatic got another call and I ended up talking to the same charming gentleman I had been speaking to 3 days earlier. Clearly thinking I was either mad or moaning, he told me to get a replacement (again) and HUNG UP!
Three days later and I can report I now have a Henry Hound that works in all departments and it is superb! Cleans far better than the Dyson and I am happy.
In summary, I gave 3 stars because I was third time lucky and the response from Numatic customer services was quite burusqe when I was reporting actual problems. In terms of performance with a working unit however, I cannot even begin to fault. This is a fine machine....when you get a fully operational model that is.
Great Vacuum August 10, 2006 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have had my Henry Hound for 9 months and have thoroughly enjoyed it! I have carpet, tiles and wood flooring and it does a great job on all of them. The bags are large which makes them last longer. I love the motorized attachment and use that 90% of the time...I am glad that I opted for this more expensive version. It picks up all sorts of hair and dirt on the first run. As with every product, there are good and bad points. My only gripes are that it is a heavy piece of equipment and not the easiest to lug up and down the stairs. The attachments cannot be stored on the machine itself, but I just keep them in a bag in the closet...not a big issue for me. It also doesn't pull along behind you easily, often getting caught on carpets or corners. That's all I can think of that is 'bad' about it. Nothing to put you off buying one, that's for sure! I'd suggest this vacuum to anyone!
The best vacuum EVER April 11, 2006 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have an old red Henry that I used in my kennels, I bought it 21 years ago and it`s still going strong, I use it in the garage now. I`ve since tried every vacuum cleaner that you can think of. I have laminate flooring in the whole of the downstairs, a large area, with a large rug in the middle. When I saw this vacuum I thought it would be great as I liked to use an upright on the rug and this one has powered head. Well I wasn`t disappointed. I can plug it in and do the whole floor without having to change sockets, the suction is brilliant on the hard floor and it just about lifts the rug of the floor. It`s also very easy to use, pulls along nicely. If you purchase this vacuum you won`t be dissapointed.
The best cleaner for dogs hair but with one weak point !!! March 30, 2006 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I had used the same Hoover Constellation and Hoover Junior for the last 40 years (YES, 40 yrs and still going strong), which were, as people who have used them will agree, the greatest vacuum cleaners ever made. The Constellation combined with the Hoover Junior almost bankrupted the Hoover company because they didn't break down and lasted too long, so that people did not purchase enough new vacuum cleaner for the company to survive. Hoover eventually stopped production of those two everlasting models and started to earn money again.
But all good things must come to an end and I decided to trade my trusted two old Hoovers for a modern Henry Hound, which actually performs the functions of both the cylinder Constellation and the upright Junior combined in one vacuum cleaner, the Henry Hound. First complained: the Hoover Constellation used 500W and had the same good suction as the Henry Hound with 1200W. Why do modern vacuum cleaner use so much electricity?
But the Henry has one other weak point. The handle is made from flimsy plastic. The plastic bends and when you push forward and back over your carpet, you get the feeling of using a cheap plastic hose/rod. I think the Henry is let down by this handle and I hope that Numatic will change this handle to a more solid one.
Otherwise I am pleased with the cleaning result. The attached 24V power brush takes up all dog and cat hair and the carbon filter suppresses the smell you get when you vacuum areas where animals live.
Would I recommend this cleaner? Yes, and ask Numatic to have another think about this terrible weak plastic handle and either use stronger plastic which doesn't bend or better still use metal for its construction in the future. I give it 4 stars because of the flimsy handle.
