5 out of 5 stars Indispensible   August 24, 2008

I was not sure about breadmakers until I saw a report in Which? magazine featuring them. Not only did it reckon that a large loaf cost little more than 50p, but that it also tasted much better. This being one of the recommended models I decided to give it a try.

I was certainly not disappointed; the bread it makes is far superior to any supermarket bread. The only possible complaint is that it does not keep as well, or so I believe, the bread is never around long enough tot find out!

As for the actual making of the bread it could not be easier, just bung the ingredients in and the breakmaker does the rest; even the warnings about being precise when measuring the ingredients seem to be overstated, the bread always comes out well however casual I am about measuring.

If I have a complaint about this model it is that the accompany recipe booklet is rather short on recipes; but there are plenty of sources for recipes including the internet; and half the fun is experimenting with different ideas.

In con conclusion, this has to rate as one of the best kitchen gadgets I've bought.

5 out of 5 stars I Love my Breadmaker!!   July 22, 2008

I received this breadmaker as a birthday present from my dad last October (after being extremely jealous of my Grandma's breadmaker!) and I think it is absolutely fantastic! It makes brilliant bread and the timer function is excellent as it ensures your bread is warm and frashly cooked for when you wake up!

My favourite function has to be the Jam making function! Before getting a breadmaker I had tried to make bread (with limited success) by hand but I would NEVER have dared to try to make jam, as it stands now I make batch after batch of jam and change the fruit slightly to make different combinations and you literally just have to chuck in all the ingredients (make sure you do measure precisely though!) and the machine does everything else! It's absolutely delicious too! I give people jars of jam and they think I must be some amazing cook, and sometimes I just let them think that! haha!

If you're thinking about getting a breadmaker I think this is definitely a winner, as has already been said, it is quite large but as long as you have room to store it, that's not really a problem (sometimes if I'm cooking other things I just pop it on the floor and let it do its thing!)Good luck and happy bread and jam making!

1 out of 5 stars Just isn't reliable   July 11, 2008

Well, my second unit has just given up now. I first bought this unit last autumn, and have already had that replaced under guarantee. The replacement has now just given up as well.

That makes the average life a unit of around 4 months. Pretty dire.

I've followed the instructions to the letter. All I tend to make is the 2lb french loaves with the occasional pizza dough and fruit loaf.

Amazon were very helpful in sending out this replcement unit, and morphy richards were extremely helpful sending out a spare baking tin for the first unit (didn't make any difference though, still had the same problem).

But even though the customer service from both has been great, it doesn't change the fact that this unit is just not up to the job.

It's a pity, because when it works it can produce nice bread, but after the first few uses, the motor starts skipping, first just occasionally but then it's down hill from there. This second unit the motor now seems to have completely disconnected from the part that's supposed to spin the kneading blade, so it just doesn't knead at all anymore (the first unit just kept 'skipping' or 'jumping' so the bread wasn't getting kneaded, although at least it was moving a bit, just not enough to make a good loaf by the time I got it replaced).

This is most certainly not a unit that you can rely on, which is very very very disappointing because when it does work it's absolutely fantastic.

I've completely lost faith in this unit, even though technically the unit I've got is still under guarantee, it just isn't worth the hassle to try to get it repaired or replaced... I just don't expect any replacement of the same model will last any longer, and I'm now fed up with it.

I'm going to bite the bullet and buy the panasonic that everyone keeps recommending.

5 out of 5 stars Ideal for a novice   July 11, 2008
Bought one of these a week ago and love it. It's easy to use, just chuck the ingredients in and walk away. The recipies supplied are good and the bread tasty. This machine was rated top by Which? magazine but buy it from the co-op online - I got mine new for 46.50 with no p&p!

2 out of 5 stars Average machine - poor customer care   April 28, 2008

This is my 6th breadmaker. I bake bread daily and none have lasted more than 2 years. Some better than others. This machine has lasted 6 months. Morphy Richards customer care has been appalling. The machine comes with a 2 year warranty but Morphy Richards make it as difficult as possible to replace. The problem has been like most other e-mails - a loud clunk then the paddle stops turning. Thank goodness for Amazons excellent customer care! The unfortunate thing is they are replacing the machine with another Morphy Richards. Definately won't buy anything made by Morphy Richards again.
