5 out of 5 stars Richardson Sheffield RAX65 - Magnetic Knife Rack 40cm   March 6, 2007

I've recently had to re-order this knife rack as I moved house but couldn't bring it with me as I managed to secure it to the wall so tightly, I couldn't get it off... it was rock solid. I love this rack so much, I wouldn't use an alternative. The more than reasonable price for this piece of kit is just one of the benefits.

My knives are completely stainless steel so I can practically throw them at the rack and they stay on. There is more than enough space for leverage to avoid scratching walls, especially if you hang your knives with the top of the blade at the the top of the rack.

It cleans easily with a quick wipe and is practically invisible. Just remember when you're hanging the rack, make sure you leave enough space for the knives (or whatever else) you want to hang from it. :o)

1 out of 5 stars Badly designed   May 6, 2006

This knife rack has two design flaws:

1) Even when tightly screwed to the wall, the rack is wobbly, because the mounting meets the wall only at a very narrow point.

2) The natural way of removing a knife results in a scratched wall, because the magnetic strips are right at the edge of the rack: Pull the knife handle towards you and the knife pivots on the magnet until the pressure of the knife point on the wall levers it off. If the rack had some non-magnetic material at the edge, this would lever the knife off instead. You have to use an unnatural twisting action to get the knives off without damaging the wall.

The above flaws seem to be purely for the sake of the styling, which isn't great anyway.

Not recommended.
