I have a wife who lives on toast which means we tend to replace toasters on a regular basis.Then a couple of years ago,we purchased a Tefal 4 slice toaster and were delighted with it.Then at xmas,we had a pipe burst and water got into the Tefal.We purchased a cheap replacement but it was useless.We then purchased a well-known brand and we were impressed.However,we decided we wanted our Tefal back and purchased this model.It's superb,toasts perfectly and is great value for money.There are other good ones out there but this is the best.Buy and enjoy.

This toaster is very large indeed and following the instructions before use entailed operating the toaster 3 times at the maximum setting with no bread in it until it tripped out (the instructions are not that clear either). There was no mention regarding the amount of rising heat and the kitchen cupboards above got to hot to touch, not a good start for health and safety! After about the fourth time of use I saw a bright light come from an element followed by a puff of smoke and the two slots on the right hand side failed to work, an element had gone. Very poor workmanship and inspection by the manufacturer! Before the fault the results were poor with the toast being burnt at the bottom and and not toasted at the top. For the normal sized large toastie loaf an inch needs cutting off the top to ensure even browning. I do not recommend this toaster as it is of poor quality for the price and does not produce toast any better than a toaster under half the price.

Had two previous toaster by Tefal Avanti,and they were brillant, this one I have had for 3 months, and it is RUBBISH, cheap finish, tinny feel to it, the others were made with a better quality material, this one takes a long time to toast and if you do not put in four slices every time, it shoots the bread up in the air!!!! So needless to say this is my last Avanti toaster

The toaster is very large, and although it toasts quickly the bread we buy, standard square loaf (HOvis) does not fit, you have to take the toast out and then turn it round so you don't have a 3 cm strip of bread at one end!
Don't try putting anything wider in it ---it just burns
The cool walls do stay cool and the raising handles are ok.
on the whole I would go for something else.

As soon as I used this toaster the first time the black plastic on the back bowed out from at the top from the heat. I sent it back and had a replacement and the same thing happened again the very first time it was used and you could actually watch it bowing out while the toaster was on. Apart from that the toasting was fine and every other aspect of it was very good. Returned it for refund and am going to choose another toaster from Amazon.
