Great at picking up fluff, dust and hairs, and does seem to need emptying fairly often, but I find this is not too troublesome as I empty it straight into the bin outside to avoid dust indoors.

1 out of 5 stars The dust clogs around the filter casing every few rooms - don't buy if you have allergies or asthma   January 3, 2008

I had high hopes for this vacuum, but after just 3 days, I'm taking it back.

Its plus points are:
1. It's light enough to carry up stairs safely
2. The mini turbo brush is useful
3. It's easy to remove the bin to empty
4. The build quality feels good
5. It has variable power, which is useful for rugs

Unfortunately the negatives is:
The dust doesn't make it through to the dust compartment, it just hangs around in the filter compartment.

It never makes it through the hole between the two, so the bin is empty, but the vacuum stops picking up.

This means the filter holder quickly gets covered in a thick mat of fluff, whilst the dust collection compartment is nearly empty. The vacuum stops picking up and you have to remove the whole filter assembly and brush off the mat that surrounds it. This creates a cloud of dust, which isn't great for those who bought it for its HEPA feature.

It's not about the quantity of dust in our carpets, it's that the dust never makes it through to the dust collection chamber, which doesn't seem right at all. You try to empty the "bottom emptying dust chamber", but it's already empty!

Contacting the Electrolux helpline number in the box was also a disappointing experience. They seemed to think it perfectly reasonable to have to do this process every other room and simply couldn't grasp that the dust should go into the dust emptying bin at all. They told me to take it back to the shop for a refund, if I don't like it.

But the shop won't refund unless faulty and Electrolux says this is "normal".

If you don't mind having to man-handle the crud from your carpets every couple of rooms, then the positives of this vacuum are probably worth it for you.

If, however, you'd like a bagless vacuum that you can empty without getting your hands dirty and filling the room with dust, it's probably best to give this one a miss. I wish I had.

Good luck!

We chose this particular model [after always using uprights] because it is lighter in weight than most of the others; also, with its powerful motor, it promised good suction for dog hairs. The suction is excellent; but it is let down by one thing - a rather short power cable. To clean the stairs, I have to plug in downstairs, clean halfway, then unplug, carry it upstairs, plug in again and finish the top half. I am 65, with a painful hip, and I thought I would only need to carry it upstairs if I wanted to go round the bedrooms. If you have problems like mine, look for something similar with a longer cable.
