Overly-sophisticated June 23, 2008 Great idea but the manufacturers have lost sight of its primary function i.e. to boil water! You make some friends a pot of cofee, refil the kettle with cold water for those want tea...and it won't let you boil the water. The energy saving electronics seem to work on time not temperature so even though it is full of cold water you have to wait until the kettle deems it's OK to work. Water also has a plastic tase even after a couple of weeks of use. Don't buy it.
It makes you water taste horrible June 6, 2008 I bought one as it looks really nice and is energy saving, but I have had to send it back. It looks nice, keeps water hot for hours but the horrible metal taste does not go away.
Nice kettle, naff taste.... March 17, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Well, all I can say is that I wish I'd read the reviews before buying this kettle. Having had it for just over two weeks now, I am stuck with a kettle that leaves the weirdest aftertaste in the boiled water, so much so, visiting friends now avoid hot drinks when they pop round! It's that bad. Having contacted Russell Hobbs about this, I was told no one else had reported similar problems (doubt that) and to add 2tbsp of bicarbonate of soda and reboil twice to cure. This actually worked for a day or two but the foul, plastic/metallic taste is now back. I'm returning this product under guarantee...does anyone know of a decent kettle worthy of purchase?
dreadful taste March 13, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this kettle and read the reviews AFTER! But I thought I'd give it a fair try anyway. The awful taste does not go away with use. Russell Hobbs suggested boiling it with 2 teaspoons of Bicarb. I did - several times but taste did not improve. I've returned mine. Save yourself the trouble and don't buy one.
Worst kettle I've ever come across March 2, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Makes the water taste really bad, the fill up feature is so slow its impossible to gauge how much to fill it up and the pouring spout is rubbish too. To reboil you have to wait for ages and you stand a very good chance of burning yourself if you take the lid off when the water is still hot. Good idea but awful execution
