I have bought several Microsoft Step-by-Step books as I have found them an excellent way of learning their languages and packages. Unfortunately this one is not up to standard because the author has taken the "step-by-step" title TOO literally in some chapters.
The most annoying example of this is when he is guiding you through altering a script - that has already been written in an earlier chapter - into a new script. Rather than showing you the whole new script he walks you through step-by-step telling you how to alter bits of certain lines and how to add lines at other points. The result is most confusing, you can't SEE what these alterations produce.
This method of instruction also results in more text being written which means the book is thicker and heavier than it needs to be. If you like to read books while travelling the weight is relevant.
You can learn a lot from this book, but if you buy it, be warned that you maybe frustrated by his style in some chapters.
