There are no instructions on the CD. It opens with a self explanitoryscreen. By experimenting with the icons it is easy to navigate. There areabout 10 different sections covering such topics as numbers, time, firstwords, shopping, countries, common phrases. Each section has a speakingvocabulary list, two levels of game play, and the ability to record yourown voice. A particular advantage of the vocabulary lists is that the wordis pronounced by both a man then a woman so slight differences in the waythey speak can lead you to getting the correct pronunciation. (The womanrolls her r's far more than the man.) The level is definately for thosejust beginning to learn the language. The topics covered are good andthose which some one new to the language would find interesting.
It does not attempt to teach hungarian at all, there are no lessons onvowel harmony, or deriving noun and verb endings etc. It is purely forpronunciation and the understanding of spoken word.
So why not five stars.I would have liked to have seen more topicalentries such as days of the week, the seasons etc. In addition the numberof spoken phrases is limited, more about eating out, ordering things ,questions about yourself etc would have turned this into an absolutelyinvaluable resource for the beginner.
Overall, excellent and very good value for money.

The Hungarian language is a pig to learn. It has little (very little) in common with other European languages, making it more difficult than say, Spanish where you can almost make a guess. This piece of software presents the very basics of the language in a fun and memorable way. The fun cheesy games make for effective learning tools, and they take the edge off the pain. It wont teach you how to speak - I've been learning with a teacher for 1.5 years and can hardly string 2 sentences together, so this has little chance. But - It will give you enough so that you can get by with a phrase book. Good fun, interesting and relevant. Good package in a small market.
