Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Learn Italian Now! 9.0 comes with two CDs, one of which has various key sections--useful "survival phrases", fun activities, conversations and practising speech against the voice of a native speaker. The other CD has a thorough grammar tutorial. This combination is certainly a valuable one for people who are serious about learning a language, and the product is clear and easy to use: in role-plays, phrases are highlighted in a box and their English translations placed underneath, while the voice recognition software allows you to measure your own voice against that of a native speaker and the games hone the things that have been learned. Sections are tailored to various activities, such as getting around, going out and business situations, while at any point you can call up a grammar tutorial that will explain a topic in more detail.

The section on survival phrases will be of much use to those who have already reached a basic level. There are several practice dialogues based on common situations--in the hotel, the bar, the airport, etc.--with some examples that demonstrate a wicked sense of humour. Although some of the advice borders on the infantile ("When you decide to travel outside the USA, you will probably need a passport"), much of it is useful and rounds out a well-composed package for someone starting out on the road to using the language overseas. --Toby Green

1 out of 5 stars What a let down!   July 18, 2007
I bought this to improve my beginners/intermediate level Italian. Looking at all the Italian learning products out there this one seemed to be the best. Now I have bought it thought, I'm disappointed. The playback videos bring you back to the poorly acted 80's videos you'd watch in French lessons at school. The language learning never goes very far in depth and limits you to a very simple level of vocab. Although the grammar reference is good and complete, i don't imagine that it rivals any Italian grammar book.
But there are very few good Italian learning resources around. Perhaps this is just the best of a bad bunch. You'd be better off getting a 30 quid Daily mail weekend break in Venice though to be perfectly honest!

5 out of 5 stars Mac User...   July 3, 2007
I am a Mac user, so this was perfect for me!
I discovered we were going to Venice on honeymoon and I found this extremely helpful as I had no knowledge of Italian whatsoever.

I really do recommend ~ it just takes a little time and patience to start getting your phrases and words correct.

2 out of 5 stars Not for the beginner   September 14, 2004

A very complex program/software. If you are a beginner then dont buy this try something else. I have tried to follow this for about weeks now and although is very thorough, unless you have the patience of a saint, its too hard to get the hang of.

4 out of 5 stars Brilliant for Intermediate and Advanced   July 17, 2003

This makes a fun and interesting addition to a standard language audio course. It is a well thought out, cleaverly designed fully interactive CD Rom. All of the (many) parts work well. The videos have a good storyline and are fun to watch. Even better,it is possible to take on the role of an actor of your choosing and record your voice for playback and comparison. There are word games, grammer exercises, comprehension and spoken exercises. It is as good as a formal laboritorio linguistico. Not for absolute beginners however.
