Amazon.co.uk Review On Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head, the melodic excellence of Parachutes remains, as does the delicate soulfulness of Chris Martin's voice. But now different styles are approached, as the band develop even further beyond their debut album (and the numerous Radiohead comparisons that dogged them at first). "God Put a Smile upon Your Face", for instance, has a thumping voodoo quality, while the hypnotic "A Whisper" has a wild vocal arrangement recalling Jefferson Airplane. Beyond this, each of the 11 tracks--from the literate power ballad "In My Place" to the 60s-style mantra "Daylight"--are given room to breathe, gradually reaching an ecstatic crescendo where Martin and that huge Coldplay piano ride over a pulsing rhythm and orchestrations that are powerful but never overblown. "Give me real, don't give me fake" says Martin in the opening "Politik" and it's an appropriately uncompromising demand, for A Rush of Blood... is without doubt the most heartfelt and emotionally liberated album to top the charts in ages. --Dominic Wills

Vinyl - Awful sound!!!! December 1, 2007 0 out of 7 found this review helpful
This review is for the vinyl issue of the album. Opinions of lyrical content aside you should be aware that this sounds terrible on vinyl. The second side is about half an hour long and cut far too close to the end of the side. It hasn't got a great tone throughout but side 2 is really really rough. Side 1 doesn't sound especially nice either. Should have been cut on 3 or 4 sides instead.
Looks nice, sounds bad.
Coldplays best 9/10 August 20, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
More moving that the former and latter this album gives a much more rounded consistant quality between parachutes guitar and piano driven emotion and X&Y's rockier feel. The reason I rate it so highly is simply, every song on here feels different and the album frequently gives me shivers with its raw emotion.
The album opens up with Politik an arena bound protest song pleeding to the G8 about fair trade. Getting lost in the worldlyness of this song is easy and the lyrics feel so wise and true, shaking you towards the end when Chris pleads for 'love over this' bridging very nicely into In My Place's 'come back to me'.
From here all of the well known singles (God put a smile / the scientist / Clocks / In my Place) are squeezed together to make lesser bands produce a one sided album. Especially with the quality of those 4. While Daylight and Greeneyes feel like lowlights only in comparison to the former and later parts of the album the touching Warning Sign is guarenteed to pull on the heart strings.
The title track itself has a cold and chilling persona as Chris explains calmly and coldly how he would do anything for his lover 'buy a gun, start a war' A brilliantly unique love song, with a killer chorus and riff.
But its the final moments of the album that provide both the most depressing of songs and coldplays greatest moment of redemption. As human kindness pulls a man back from suicide. As gripping as Running to stand still - U2. It ends the album on a totally uplifting feel.
And there you have it, second only to efforts by Pink Floyd and Radiohead, this is one of the best albums i've ever heard.
Fantastic Album July 8, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
In my experiance Colpdlay is an aquired taste of music. I highly doubt most people will take to this album from the first listen but persevere and you will find yourself enjoying listening to the songs more and more. The reason for this is because Coldplays style is very defined and the mix of bittersweet piano and guitar playing makes for a very distinctive sound. There are beautiful lyrics and truly mindblowing riffs in every song in this album and guess what: there's no filler songs, each one is great and they are carefully designed to give a different feel to the listener. I myself still have trouble catagorising Coldplay's style of music because it is simply not like any other music out there. Nope its not like U2 or Radiohead, though these bands obviously had some influence in the bands style. Songs like "The Scientists", "In My Place" and "Clocks"will be the most recognised but not necessarily everyones favourites: (my personal favourite is "Warning Sign"). I seriously reccommend adding this to your music collection and I am sure that you won't be dissapointed.
