I WERE NOT AWARE WE HAD LOST DEAR LAURA IN 2004,IT IS A BITTER SWEET SENSATION THAT MANY OF US FANS AND ADMIRERS WILL FEEL.HER FAR REACHING HEART WRENCHING VOCALS JUST BLOWS YOU AWAY.WHAT EVER AGE YOU MAY BE, GET THE CD "THE PLATINUM COLLECTION BY LAURA BRANIGAN" THESE SONGS STIR THE EMOTIONS.GREAT MEMORYS WILL ALWAYS HAVE IN LISTENING TO HER MUSIC.

If I had my choice of singers to keep me up all night long with indiginous feelings and hearfelt passion......this lady would be it!!!
A far cry from your average one octive singer, Laura could shout "reville" the next county over and you'd hear her echo for miles away.
Aside from being the world's most reknown vocalist since Beverly Bivens(aka the We Five era) she is/was "drop-dead" GORGEOUS!!! Having had the privilege of seeing her in concert for the Self Control tour, she's an amazing woman that reaches out and grabs ya....only trouble is, she takes your heart with her. Try getting it back........lol...........she is the reason young men sigh, and old men cry!!!
Truly a legend in our time.

Nothing much to really write home about.
Self Control is a very good song but in my opinion about 3 times more enjoyable when watched as the pop video version rather than just on an audio CD.
Gloria sounds incredibly dated and hasn't lasted the test of time.
Michael Bolton's version of How Am I Supposed To Love You is light year's better than Laura Branigan's and the rest of the album is very average.
Should add that I was very sad to learn that Laura Braingan passed away in her forties. Rest in eternal peace.

I have been a fan of Laura Branigan for well over 20 years, and when people tell me that they have not heard of her and listen to her cd, they sing along with every track. Of course most famous for Gloria and Self Control in the UK, but she was absolutely huge in Japan, and USA. Alot of her songs were covered and made famous by other artists such as Michael Bolton, Cher, Hazel Dean, Jennifer Rush, Maria McKee etc - but Laura's voice stood out by a mile and the strong, well controlled rock chic's vocal used to bring goose bumps to my spine and often tears to my eyes. OK, alot of Laura's finer moments are not included here, but it's a good starting point for new fans. I strongly recommend to see if you can find the rare cd Self Control - The Last Recordings after this one and dwell on the amazing vocals of the tracks I Know You By Heart and Reborn. Sadly, Laura's life was cut short in August 05', when she passed away, but her raw talent has never been a stranger to my cd players, and never will. I beg you to give this cd a listen and you will be hooked by track 3, get your disco boots on and away you go.....

oh what a voice!
laura hit it big in the early 80s with gloria and self control...she released 7 albums but never really hit the big time after self control.
her best work was in the 80s around the time of self control and the album of the same name is brilliant. Luckily 6 of the tracks are from this album as well as a sort of best of from the others!
lauras voice never fails and the problem with a lot of her albums is the quality of the songs....thankfully this album doesnt suffer this!
standouts are self control, the lucky one, how am i supposed to live without you (stand back micheal bolton this girl delivers it), i found someone (chers classic) will you still love me tomorrow(carole king) never in a million years and moonlight on water.
laura vocal style is hard to compare...a bit bonnie tyler a bit karen carpenter..even a bit eva cassidy ...she always delivered 100% and made the song her own.
like karen and eva she has left a legacy and the world of music is a bit sadder.
for me the classic will always be ti amo and if you have any doubts about this album have a listen...it is 200% wonderful!!!!
