Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Emo might be swiftly shaping up to be the sound of disenfranchised 21st Century youth, but one listen to The Black Parade raises serious doubts that the genre will prove big enough to contain My Chemical Romance. The third studio album from this New Jersey quintet breaks new ground in grandiosity, an ambitious parade of passionate emotional hardcore, political ire and pantomime frivolity set to a scope seldom seen since the days of Queen. Any moping is short-lived: frontman Gerard Way might sing "If you look in the mirror and don't like what you see/You can find out firsthand what it's like to be me" on the opening "The End", but it's really just a new beginning, the band sweeping back a curtain to reveal a suite of frantically enjoyable outsider anthems. Importantly, MCR have a humour many of their peers lack: "Mama", featuring guest vocals from Liza Minnelli, appears to be a satire of the Iraq war set to a jumpy polka beat; meanwhile, the Hoodie Generation gets its own tongue-in-cheek anthem with "Teenagers" ("They said all/Teenagers scare/The living **** out of me"). Impassioned, inspired and amusing, The Black Parade takes the bar set by Green Day's American Idiot and raises it one notch higher.--Louis Pattison

5 out of 5 stars Proper Music!   November 11, 2008
I hadn't heard anything by them until ITV used the track 'Welcome to the Black Parade' during the Brazilian F1 Grand Prix. I didn't know who it was by but was instantly hooked. A few mouse clicks later and I'd found out the artist and had ordered the album.

I received it today and couldn't wait to play it. Absolutely fantastic! The only problem (!) is that I'm now going to have to buy the rest of the albums. It's such a long time since I've heard music that immediately grabs my attention.

Worth every penny. Highly recommended if you like 'proper' music.

This band is a big steaming pile of poo. I couldn't agree more with other comments about complete lack of true emotion, brain grating insincere vocals and generally an all round bland yet obnoxious listening experience. There isn't anything here to rival their lowest point - I'm not ok (i promise) - from their previously vomited effort, but the fact this pile of rubbish hit the market so much harder is such a tragedy for music. Credit where it's due, there's no doubt this band have vision, it's just such uninspired and disgusting one. Soulless and humourless.

5 out of 5 stars I Can't Deny Just How Fantastic This Album Really Is   September 8, 2008
MCR has always been one of those guilty pleasures for me. I know I shouldn't like it, but I love it regardless. I bought this album within the first week it came in out (2006 I think?) and have been listening to it ever since. Emo rock, catchy melodies, unforgettable lyrics, dark topics and pure, raw emotion - all things that have made this album, at least in my eyes, one of those I will never forget. I've saw MCR live back in March 07' on their tour for this album as well and have to say, that the band are every bit as good live as they are in record - in fact, I'd say better. Emo has come under a lot, and I mean A LOT of criticism, but albums like this should be help up against the fire to show that this style of music is really worth something. Love this album and love this band, and I'm not afraid to say it. Stand out tracks on this album include 'This is How I Disappear', 'Sharpest Lives', 'Mama' and 'Famous Last Words'. Give it a chance, I doubt you'll regret it.

5 out of 5 stars great album   September 4, 2008
hey heres my review on The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance.

The Black Parade is the third album by emo, punk band My Chemical Romance, following 2004's "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenege", It got to second in the British album charts; it features the hit single Welcome To The Black Parade. There are 3 other singles in this album "I Don't Love You", "Famous Last Words" and "Teenagers". The album got mostly favourable review when it came out but how good is it?

The first track "The End" is a short 1:52min intro, it is a rock piece, which has a very interesting ending stop dead very suddenly and without warning. This leads into the next song "Dead". The song is very lively but in contrast it has sad lyrics. It is very catchy and you quickly pick up all of the lyrics. The third track "This Is How I Disappear" the drums are very noticeable and prominent in the piece; I personally like the way the singer voice changes style through the piece.

The fourth track "The Sharpest Lives" is one of the darkest tracks in the album; it has a good intro with the guitar. The vocals in this also change, which is good! The fifth track "Welcome To The Black Parade" is probably the biggest hit My Chemical Romances have ever had. You can see why! It's a 5:12min long piece starting with a simple piano intro before going back to being like the previous four tracks but still individual. It has a very quick tempo and the lyrics make it inspiring to listen to. "I don't love you" slows things down after the epic that is "Welcome To The Black Parade" is a bit different to any of the other track but still just as good. It isn't just the slower tempo: it doesn't have any guitar solos jumping out at you through the piece. It seems more domestic and less in your face. Track seven "House Of wolves" bring the return of the guitar, loud drumming and lively lyrics! Probably the loudest, liveliest and it sounds like a metal song on the whole album.

"Cancer" is quite a deep song about the diseases cancer, as you may have guessed. I think this is quite powerful and lots of people can relate to it, if they have been affected in anyway by the disease. It features guest vocals from Liza Minnelli. Track ten is sleep, which (like in Welcome To The Black Parade) starts with a short piano intro, before going into the main song. This is quite slow but still good. It separates itself from the other tracks as people talk over the music; this is an interesting change.

"Teenager" is my favourite track on the album! It has very catchy lyrics and I really like the guitar in it. Disenchanted is another of my favourites completely different to the previous track its much slower and the vocals are very different no as loud much more discrete but still effective. The last song on the album is "Famous Last Words" it's a great climax to the album non-stop pure rock music! A truly great song to end a truly great album....

I would definitely recommend this album I'd give 10/10 every single song is worth listening to. The mostly have catchy lyrics, good guitar and drums; I especially liked the piano intro's to the songs. The band has improved significantly since their last album and there sound has changed too! So if you didn't like that you may still enjoy this!

5 out of 5 stars SO COOL!   May 6, 2008
This was the first My Chem album I bought. I was pulled in by "Teenagers" and "Welcome to the black parade" immediatly, but I actually took the plunge and bought the album two years after it's release. If I hadn't bought it that day, I don't know where I'd be now.The Black Parade definitely lets MCR's classic rock influences seep through (compare TBP to 'The Wall', Pink Floyd)
THIS CD ROCKS!!! BUY IT NOW!!!
