Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
The world can't get enough of Madonna, and with CD/DVD sets like The Confessions Tour dropping regularly, it's little wonder why. As a thrower of fantasy dance parties, she is peerless. As a physical role model for the 40-ish women who grew up on her music, she rules. And as an arbiter of what's going to sound shockingly original in any given decade--well, duh. The Confessions Tour rounds up songs from way back--"Ray of Light" and "La Isla Bonita" make the DVD, and "Lucky Star" and "Like a Virgin" are on the CD as well as the DVD--but this concert, filmed in 2006 at Wembley Arena, aims its sturdiest spotlight on Confessions on a Dance Floor, Madge's 2005 disco disc. You could argue, then, that unless you're in it for the sheer DVD spectacle (and what a spectacle it is), there's no sense in owning this package. Only you wouldn't be right. Because as any on-the-ball Madonna fan knows, what she's doing musically is telling a story--you may already know the characters, but that doesn't mean she hasn't completely reworked the plot. To that end, "I Love New York" gets its rock on, "Let It Will Be" has a musical temper tantrum, and "Hung Up" goes for the drama queen award. You've heard these songs before, but you've never heard them quite like this, to borrow a bad informercial phrase. As twisted and hopped-up as they've become, they're all worth getting to know again. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars One of the most amazing live shows i've ever seen   April 11, 2008
Barcode: 0093624448921

Pure magic. The Confessions Tour in many ways defies description, to sit down and see the whole spectacle of it unfolding on your TV is just mindblowing. It really is that good! The picture and sound quality is crystal clear, stage projections artfully intertwined with the performance and from Madonna's imposing entrance in a giant disco ball to the carefree, pure joy moments later on in the concert with songs like Ray Of Light and Hung Up this DVD really goes as close as possible to making you feel as if you were actually there.

The majority of songs here come from Confessions On A Dancefloor and on the whole remain pretty faithful to their studio versions - but everything sounds bigger, more ambitious, more totally amazing. Particular highlights include the thumping industrial beats of Let It Will Be, the pure funk and energy of Music Inferno and the haunting Future Lovers / I Feel Love mash-up. Madonna sings her way admirably through all of them, her voice on top form, really enfusing each and every song with emotion.

It's also interesting to see the updated versions of her older songs, Like A Virgin feels really pumped up, all throbing bass and epic synth hooks whereas the version of Erotica used here adds are deliciously catchy new part over a dreamy backing off subtle electronica. More on Madonna's performance? She's just magic to watch, looking great as she takes up a guitar and rocks out to 'I Love New York' - she's perfectly intwined with everything around her - the music, the dancers, the stage - all resulting in the truly amazing concert that is The Confessions Tour.

There's also a touching moment halfway through where Madonna takes a break to drink some water and has a charming little chat with the audience. It's short and simple but the few words she says are truly inspiring and you can tell she is genuinely thankful for all the love and devotion the audience has for her.

Credit has to go to her dancers too, some of the moves they pull off are just incredible and everything flows effortlessly into each-other, a well oiled machine that is pure joy to watch and serves as a wondrous backdrop to Madonna and her songs. A fanastic CD/DVD digipak package that totally lives up to all expectations.

5 out of 5 stars just enjoy the show   March 7, 2008
it would be great to read a review of this DVD/CD that does not include comparisons with Kylie! Why bother, you either love Madonna, or Kylie or both.
This is an absolutely fantastic record of one of her most spell binding tours, and having seen the show in Paris, really captures the heart stopping excitement, glamour and passion.
As all madonna fans have to concede about official releases, we never get much more than what it says on the tin, and much as we like to describe imaginary bonus discs, there are not here.
Thank the Lord we have a record of this show in full, as it might be a long time before we see the Re-invebtion tour released.
10/10

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Buy for a CD/DVD   March 4, 2008
This Album is one of the best in my collection. It combines the excellence of Confessions On A Dancefloor with the added bonus of the DVD with the tour. Madonna has done right releasing a Live CD and Tour DVD.

Well Done, Madonna!!

1 out of 5 stars Good CD, but boring DVD   December 23, 2007

On the DVD, Madonna gives a robotic perfomance, where she comes out with the same well worn (and well known) themes that she's been bringing up over much of her career; the same tiresome obsession with acting out the part of a 'dominant female' on stage; the jesus/madonna on the cross bit; the same obsession with playing with Christian imagery; it all seems a bit samey; wasn't she doing this kind of thing fifteen years ago? I don't think she realises how boring it really is. She's never had much soul, and this comes out in her performance and in the kind of music she's being singing over the years. I'm amazed that people can't see through her shallow performance.

4 out of 5 stars Great tribute to an amazing show   June 28, 2007

Part of me know still can't believe that I went to a Madonna concert last summer and what a concert it was!

The DVD part of the package has the entire show for your viewing pleasure, complete with bonus features and 'Live To Tell'. A visual treat for Madonna and live music fans even if you couldn't attend.

The CD of this set is one that is more questionable, however one that grows on you. The mixing of the tracks doesn't work too well in some parts. Thankfully the tracks towards the end of the CD are fantastic.

'Music Inferno' is a particular highlight for me and 'Erotica' became more of a love song in the show as opposed to the S&M tribute it was on the "Erotica" album. Excellent reworking of 'Lucky Star' and great finale with 'Hung Up'.

If you want to know if other performers will be putting on a spectacle like this at the age of 48, then here is an example to try and beat!
