Quite good - Shame no Blu-ray June 28, 2008

I agree with the other reviewers that the picture quality of this DVD release could be better. It is a shame it has not been released on Blu-ray, seeing as this was recorded and broadcast in High Definition.
The contest itself is quite good, but not as good as other years. It comes on 2 discs (2xDVD9s), one for the semi-final and one for the final. The semi-final and contest are presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.78:1), though some sections of the disc may be in 4:3. The total running time is 415 min, it is not region coded, and is in PAL format.

This is the best Eurovision yet. This DVD release is absolutely great without any problems. Picture and sound quality just Great!!!

I have not encountered any kind of technical problems or picture quality that the previous reviewers have. The picture is crisp and I see no artifacts at all. Thankfully I decided to get the dvd against their advice.
80s VHS quality? I think you guys have to set-up your equipment properly, as the only problem I see in this set is that during the semi-final perfomance from Serbia there is a dropout of video and sound that I think happened during the original broadcast and therefore is not fixable. However I would expect there to be a note on the set warning of this. Not to mention I'd like to see a chapter sheet to guide me through.
Beside that, I have seen NO problem at all with this set or the previous ones, and I own them all.

It is amazing how poor the quality of the image is! It is as if I am watching a video tape produced in 80s. What a shame for an official release and disappointment.
 A neglected release of a great show June 28, 2007

Everybody knows what the Eurovision Song Contest is, so this obviously needs no explanation. Most of the people who browses this product, probably saw the Helsinki 2007 show and thus know what content to expect. What they are unaware of however is how this DVD is pieced together, what it offers and what it sadly does not offer.
This release contains two discs, one containing the semifinal and one containing the final. Both shows are nicely divided into chapters, so you can easily to skip back and forth between the performances. However, there are - in my humble opinion - two significant issues with this release. The first and most important one is the picture quality. Even though the shows span two DVD9's, something went wrong in the production. The anamorphic widescreen presentation is quite clear and the framerate is smooth, but the picture is full of disgusting compression artifacts. I have monitored the bitrate during playback and it seems appropriate, so I am puzzled as to why you will have to endure mpeg-artifacts surrounding edges throughout the show. I have bought the 2006 DVD as well and it suffers from the same issues. Considering that the 2007 show was the first to be shot in Full HD resolution, the authors cannot blame the source material for the crummy end result.
My second quirk is the lack of lyrics/subtitles. I think it would have been appropriate to include a lyrics track for the audience to sing along, should they desire to.
