LeapFrog, in partnership with educational experts, has developed Turbo Twist Maths--yet another excellent educational learning toy and a new idea designed to give children confidence, which in turn can encourage and inspire a love of learning. Turbo Twist Maths tutors children in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and word problems for mental maths. The game has many assets: it is fun to use, is interactive, is personal to each player, and it is small and lightweight, and therefore completely portable.
LeapFrog has always borne in mind the fact that children learn best at their own pace, and therefore they make sure that the games contain the technology to allow player to play at their own pace and learning level. Accompanying the game is a first-class pamphlet of instructions for children and parents, which should be read before playing. The manufacturers recommend that the games are suitable for children aged six years and over, and the console-like gaming controls help tailor it to appeal to this age group.
The toy has a number of modes: "Learn It" teaches how equations are phrased, and solves them. "Quiz Time" requires players to pick an equation type and select the correct answer. "Beat the Clock" requires players to solve as many equations as possible within 90 seconds. And "Word Problems" provides part of a word equation that players must complete in a fun and exciting way.
Note: throughout the accent is American, but this in no way detracts from the enjoyment or learning value of the toy, and most pronunciations have been anglicised for UK learners.
This is an excellent package, offering fun challenges, and it will help create a learning environment that encourages discovery and fosters success.
