 The Best Comedy Show of all time is now available on DVD! March 8, 2008
As many people will already know, Monty Python's Flying Circus is perhaps the most original groundbreaking comedy ever made. I bought mine from amazon.de and when It arrived I was very happy with my purchase especially because it looked better than the image pictured on the site.
However, I do need to clear some things up about the German release as many of the reviews do not state them.
First, The DVDs are the exact same as the English Release! They are not better quality and they do not contain any special features.
Second, The German Release does not include the German Episodes.
Third, The Booklet included is in German except for the episode listing and original airdates. The DVD title menus are also English.
Fourth, The Back of the German Box Set is rather cheesy. It is the man pictured hiding behind the T and Y in the word MONTY on the front cover with a really naff looking upside down speech bubble saying "The Complete Series of the Flying Circus in der englischen originalfassung mit deutschen untertitein" which isn't nessecarily a bad thing but I thought it would be a good idea to bring this to anyone's attention who is thinking of buying the German Release.
Fifth, The Packaging on the German release despite the Back Cover is Exquisite and much better than a Slip Case included with the English Ones.
And Finally, You will not need to pay any Extra Taxes. I was wary of this but the reviewers on this page were indeed correct.
Hope I have solved some queries you may have had and now you can decide for yourselves.

Hi there,
As we all know, the intial R1 A&E edition of these shows is about as useful as a barbershop at the steps of a gilutine (to paraphraze the words of one Edmund Blackadder the Third) - for the very silly people (whom I assume must have suffered severely when they were children) who were responsible for that poor excuse of a "Complete Box-Set" have released the EDITED & CENZURED versions of these 45 master-pieces... (grrrr!!..... )
In any event, that in mind - I have but 3 questions:
1) Are these UK editions the truly complete and un-edited\un-cenzured versions?
2) Are the programs of the German Box-Set the complete and un-edited versions?
3) Does the German Box feature the "German Episodes" ?

I would like to add my comments to those below. The German 7-disc box set looks great, the picture and sound are fabulous (much better than I remember it when last broadcast) and it costs less than half the price of the UK editions (37 against 75 - no contest). I wondered if subtitles might be a problem. They're not. There's a choice of many languages including English and English HOH, but you just select Subtitles Off and away you go. (In fact, I may watch them all over again WITH German subtitles just to see how bizarre that will be!)

Couldn't agree more with the other reviewers about obtaining the complete set from Amazon.de. 38, delivery within 5 days - why isn't this set available in the UK yet?
