Disappointing. June 8, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got this handheld a while ago and eventually I couldn't use it. I went through 3 DS to fix the problem with it I had, and the problem was I had to press down really hard on the diagonals to make them respond. This wouldn't have been so bad, but it made my hand cramp up really badly. I persisted for a while with it thinking it may stop, but if anything it got worse.
When it comes to 2D games, then you won't have this problem, but for Mario 64 DS, and Metroid Hunters, it will just make your hand ache in agony.
I eventually sold my system with 3 games for 95. What was the point in keeping it when I couldn't use it?
Also the games are ridiculously over priced. They're like 30 quid a pop, and you can buy new console games for only a little more, or used console games for cheaper!
Another let down customer December 30, 2007 18 out of 34 found this review helpful
Like one of the other reviewers I saw on Dec 19th that this was in stock and available for next day delivery. I placed the order literally within seconds. Needless to say I now know the item was not really in stock - I got emails telling me it would be delivered before Dec 24th and then just before Xmas a message saying the supplier had let Amazon down and it would be arriving sometime in February. Lesson learnt Amazon - with no route to complain about an order placed when there was stock (I checked after placing the order and it was still showing as available) customers are forced to leave product feedback.
I will continue to use Amazon for non-essential purchases. I trusted them to deliver and stopped my DS search believing I had bought an "in stock" item. Big mistake - made all the more annoying by Amazon's refusal to accept messages FROM customers - it only sends them out or lets you read FAQs.
BEWARE NINTENDO DS USERS! December 29, 2007 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
You cannot fault the Nintendo DS for its design and gaming experience, except for one flaw. It's durability.
I have had my Nintendo DS Lite for just over 12 months and hardly used it in that time, except to train my brain with Dr Kawashima. However, I am disappointed and annoyed that a crack has appeared in the hinge and a green dot on the touch screen, which is noticeable and distracting when playing games with dark images. It is literally just out of warranty and I will have to pay around half the price of a new DS to repair it. Ironically, the DS has not been man-handled but stored carefully in a carry case out of harm's way. So as a word of caution, keep your proof of purchase so you can claim under the 12 month warranty should you need to. Otherwise, happy gaming!
Amazing December 27, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The Lite makes the original DS look like a beta model. It's smaller; sturdier; endlessly stylish; has much softer, better buttons; has far better placement of features, especially the microphone and headphone sockets; has a thicker stylus. It's no longer wrist-breakingly heavy, and is basically superior in every conceivable way. Performance is of course the same, though the battery is possibly a little longer lasting and charges faster. If you have the money for it, I would definitely recommend upgrading your old DS.
As for games, there is so much quality covering most genres, from New Super Mario Bros to Elite Beat Agents to Pheonix Wright and more. Online functionality is dire compared to the PSP, but quite workable if you don't mind the inconvenience of twelve-digit friend codes and a lower standard of wireless encryption. If these terms mean nothing to you, then it's safe to ignore these gripes. :)
woow much better than i expected & I had high expectations! December 26, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a fabulous console. Both myself & my 8 year old dd got one for Xmas. It's lots more fun if you have 2 in a family- multiplayer modes on games, pictochat (a text based message thing similar to msn messenger) etc all add an extra dimension.
It is really easy to see the screen, light to hold & the games are lots of fun.
I'm very, very happy, possibly the most fun present I have ever received.
I don't like any other console games - my husband has a ps2, XBOX & XBOX 360 & I never play any of them (except the eye toy on the PS2). But I find the stylus on the ds really instinctive & easy to use.
BTW the game made husband is currently playing on my DS!
My dd who is 8 loves hers too. She loves the fact that it can be turned upside down to be easier if you are left handed. She also loves blowing into the microphone for games, the quality of the graphics & the chat function.
Well worth the money for such a fab piece of kit.
