dont listen to all the people that say it is exactly the same. it's incredible! the graphics are a work of art, the cars are beautiful, and you can have more fun on it than any other gta! i paid 45 for mine and i dont regret it! if you dont have this i would suggest that you buy it!

3 out of 5 stars Not so sure   July 8, 2008

For starters the game looks great. The graphics are incredible and the attention to detail astounding.

However, after you get past the initial "ooh's" and "aah's", its worth taking a step backwards and asking yourself is the game really that good?
Well, no its not (but I know plenty of people who would disagree).

First of all, the combat system is pretty lousy, I was assured it had been improved since the last GTA and was was much more intuitive, but I still found myself surounded by gun toting cops, yet still locking onto unarmed civillians who just happened to be in the way. The combat is still awkward.

Driving proved to be awkward too - which for a driving game is always a major problem. I seemed to spend my whole time watching the back end of my car spin out of control no matter how slowly I was going. High speed pursuits are nigh on impossible!! People say the cars handle like their real life counterparts and the game is more realistic. But if I wanted realism, I wouldn't be playing a video game!!!

There just seems to be a lot less freedom in this latest version, not as much to do. I am completley stuck on several of the missions (some of which are frustratingly difficult) which means I cannot go any further in the game. So I decided I would go exploring for a while, but there is only so much driving and exploring you can do before the tedium sets in.

Above all, I don't think this is a major leap forward in gaming and it is not a major leap forward in the GTA series - just a step sideways. This game is controller-smashingly frustrating, don't believe ALL the hype.

2 out of 5 stars not that brilliant   July 7, 2008

any game with high expectations is bound to be a dissapointment but the reason i don't like this game that much is because it isn't fun. For the first two hours of the game, you view many many cut scenes and drive people around in a taxi, the next hour you may shoot a couple of people and then drive others around in a taxi. You have to do pointless tasks with friends or girlfriends like arrange to meet them and go to resturants or shows which is mind numbingly boring. The point of video games are to forget about reality a bit and just do something fun and i just don't see why putting fairly boring every days tasks into a game is worth 10/10 from almost every magazine review. Driving around in any car you like is fun at first but it gets boring pretty quickly and once you've done the repetetive early taxi missions you're be sick of it. I bought saints row last year and had far far more fun on that than this game. Don't waste your time on this game, wait for saints row 2 as i'm positive it will be a hell of a lot better than this

1 out of 5 stars sucks   July 6, 2008

Well where do i begin this is probably the worst game i have played for the simple reason that everything has become bland, boring its like running around stealing a car or shooting an enemy that used to be fun but now its a mere set back the only good thing about GTA4 is the Graphics but they are about an 8/10 cause when you look at the like of later releases like mercs 2 the graphics look more real and when you look at Splinter Cell Double Agent the rendering is just right. Gameplay ok like i have already covered terribly boring most of the cars you pick up are like hard to drive along with the controls it doesnt help, storyline is just stupid and when people run they look stupid e.g niko sprinting looks alot like he has a broom stuck up his ass. i think its possibly time that Rockstar stepped down on making this series and hand it over to better companies who will make much better games. overall this gets a 2/10 the 2s for the graphics

5 out of 5 stars Best game on the XBOX 360   July 3, 2008

As with others I eagerly awaited the release of GTA IV. I'd played all the previous games so there was alot of living up to do.

To be totally honest, when I first started playing this game, I did feel as though it was lacking something. BUT...after giving it some time it has won me over.

The graphics are clearly superb...the best of any game I have played. The driving is fantastic...hard to begin with, but after some time it becomes second nature. After going back onto GTA SA and VC the driving is marginally better in GTA IV.

The missions are brilliant...just the same as the type of missions we have come to love. There are some pretty meaty side missions too (racing, assassinations, drug dealing, taxi driving, police most wanted missions, pigeon shooting).

Another good aspect of the game is the ability to socialize. You can play darts, bowling, go to the bar, strip club, comedy club (ricky gervais and kat williams). When you've become friends with someone they will do favours for you (as do girlfriends) which can be very useful.

To be totally honest, there are too many great aspects of this game to list. The attention to detail is incredible. I think that this game is in a league of it's own and thus is a must- have.
