Oh dear oh dear. I would not recommend that anyone buy a Xbox 360. They are by far the most poorly built console ever made. The Xbox 360 suffers from overheating because of poor design. This is called the Red Rings of Doom. The is because the ring of light shows 3 red lights when it breaks. The Xbox 360 at one point had a fault rate of 43%. This percentage is so high that if it were any other applicance it would be recalled. It is now about 20% error rate. This means 1 in every 5 consoles break with the RROD fault. I know over 20 people who's consoles have broken with this fault. This isnt the only thing wrong with it. The tray style disk drive break a lot too. They either stop working and don't read your games or they scratch the disks and make them unplayable. Just to put it into perspective both the PS3 and Wii have less than 1% error rate.
Microsoft made a huge error in not including a Hard Drive and a high capacity disk drive. This means that games can not be installed to the hard drive and the disk is contantly spinning. This can be very noisy and can sound like the Xbox 360 is turning into a lawnmower. It can be really offputting when playing a atmospheric game. Game developers Id (makers of the award winning games Doom and Quake) have said that the Xbox 360 version of their new game Rage will be very inferior to the PS3 and PC version due to the hardware problems of the Xbox 360.
The PS3 is a vastly superior machine to the Xbox 360. All of the games look much better than the Xbox 360's and the Blu Ray drive is awesome. I would recommend that everyone buy a PS3 and not even concider a Xbox 360.

Had one since the elite first launched.
Never had 1 problem with it and it runs beautifully quietly.
Easily the best next gen console out there.
Best selection of games, best online service, all round winner.

Xbox 360 Elite Console (120 GB Hard Drive)
I bought my Xbox 360 Elite (after being a dedicated PS2 girl for many years) as wanted to experience MASS EFFECT on my full HD 1080 TV (this game is THE coolest release for this console, in my opinion, and the best reason to invest). All was going fine until two days ago when the picture started going very 'pink', like a colour bleed, shortly afterwards I lost video altogther and it no longer allows a connection via HDMI either. To cut a long story short, after checking out various online blogs, it appears this has nothing to do with the RROD error, but may possibly relate to video card failure. Either way, I have a very expensive doorstop at the moment. I am only two weeks off the 12 month purchase anniversary so JUST inside the manufacturers guarantee (PHEW!!!!!). However, this has seriously dented my confidence in this console. I will now have to get Microsoft to sort this out which means sending the xbox off for at least 3 weeks, but in the meantime I will also be investing in a PS3 to satisfy my gaming urges...lesson learnt, stick with what you know, and Sony DO know what they are doing with consoles (Bill Gates? I'm really not so sure!). Please take heed - if you do invest in the Elite (admittedly I was loving it up until it stopped working - isn't that always the way), I suggest you seriously consider buying an extended guarantee agreement, for your peace of mind if nothing else. All 360's are fab they are simply amazing consoles, for playing with your friends, playing solo and the best feature which is online.
this console is definately the best for its money....
of course IF, microsoft actually used decent parts.
half the comments about the 360 that ive heard have stated that its either rubbish, broke down a year or 6 months (and some even less!) after purchase - i bought the console in mid september 2007 and in march 08 th unplayable disc error occured and still persists with most my games- or that they've changed to the the ps3 after experiencing the problems with the 360.
so lets cover some the most common problems with the 360:
-Ring of death
-Unplayable disc error
-open disc tray/ no disc error
-freezing

your probably thinking "why so?". Because microsoft uses parts from a junkyard.
the only reason my 360 wont play my games is because the hdd (hard disk drive) is too retarded to spin the disc.
i have to physicaly get the console and shake it in a way so that the disc inside spins, and let me tell you, it takes 1 and a half hours of effort until it finally works. by the way all my discs (apart from two second hand ones) have no scratches on them.
oh actually, wait, the hdd actualy scratched my spiderman 3 disc (2 weeks old when it scratched) and now the disc has 2 lines going around the disc making it look like a target...
great.
so theres your problem. if your ever thinking of complaining to microsoft tell them to get better quality parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The XBOX 360 elite was my fourth 360. note the past tense "was". I bought a 360 a year and a bit ago, which broke down just around 3 months later with the RROD. it was replaced soon after by the retailer and the next one was the best one - it lasted about 6 months. died with a disc drive error. again, still within a year so was replaced by the retailer - the next one lasted around 4/5 monts before yet another RROD. Then, hoping for a fully functional 360, ordered an elite. 12 weeks. 12 weeks and it RROD'd. i could have got it replaced but, i was very, VERY tired with the whole charade and so ordered myself a PS3 console which - and dont say im being biased here because this is my honest opinion - is much quieter, much prettier (the games in general just look better), can play movies out of the box and has free online play unlike the XBOX - plus, Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Ratchet and Clank are as good if not better than any XBOX elclusives i played *cough*Halo 3*cough*. So my advice to you, reader is to ignore this piece of garbage and buy yourself a PS3.
