5 out of 5 stars We can't leave it alone   April 30, 2008

It arrived on Monday and every day the three of us have religously done our tests and trained hard. My 10 year old is so good at the hula-hooping and the stepping, put me to shame but we are all having great fun.

Well done Nintendo - heres to the next masterpiece!!!

5 out of 5 stars Just as much fun as a game device as a fitness aid   April 30, 2008

I would class myself as a fit and active person so when I brought the wii fit I was slightly concerned about how much use I would get out of it. All I can say it my concerns were very misplaced. While it is an excellent way to keep active and improve balance and posture it is also great fun to play the games in particular the balance and aerobic ones.

As you unlock more activities the variety of games and orientatios of the wii board increase.

The only part of the game I have not really been able to fully apprechiate is the muscle building as I do not have much space in my room to use it so a the space required might be worth bearing in mind for someone who really wants to use this feature.

5 out of 5 stars fat then fit   April 30, 2008

I got this the other day a few days after release.. walked into the shop and there was loads left - 69.00 Bargain.... The prices on amazon are a rip off at the moment!!

Well, I've been motivated to exercise again... walked the 30 mins to work, done the gardening and... of course, played Wii fit... I've actually lost 5lb up to today (Wed 30th April).

Now it is really good, and the more you spend on it, the more activities you unlock, however, I suffered lots of aches and pains, all due to my lack of physical fitness combined with playing hula hoop over and over again!

I would recommend this to anyone. Go out and get it, but shop around before resorting to paying 120 + or paying ridiculous prices on ebay!!

5 out of 5 stars Getting fit at last is fun!!   April 30, 2008

Having tried gym membership several times over the years with the best of intentions I can honestly say this is so much more fun! I must admit I have concentrated more on the "fun" aerobic & balance exercises and haven't tried out yoga at all yet. The muscle strengthening exercises are even interesting as you endevour to keep your balance in the correct place ....which also helps to ensure you do the exercise properly.

Hula hoops certainly works the abdo muscles ( ones I didn't know I had !!) and the step routine is just like the real thing ( and I still go the wrong way.)
If you can ski the slalom brings back memories of winter holidays... and my husband who can't ski, skiied it just like beginners do by trying to turn with his shoulders !! The running you would think is a a gimmick but it is so much easier running on your lounge floor after a little Mii and being overtaken by dogs !! I even found myself waving at spectators on the grass (well they waved at me first!!) And every now & then something happens to make you laugh ...like being overtaken by another mii who then promptly falls flat on his face.

All in all ..... great fun and a good aid to fitness for the unfit & the over 40's who don't what to compete in the gym but don't want to turn to seed either !!

Get it ..... you won't regret it

5 out of 5 stars Simply brilliant. Fun and fitness in a quality package.   April 29, 2008

Let's be honest: it looked like this was going to be a bit of a gimmick, didn't it? A computer games console gadget that could help you get fit? Don't make me laugh! My sides are splitting!! Er, hang on..... that's because I have a stitch!

I received - at long last! - my Wii Fit software and Balance Board this week. I have to say that I am seriously impressed with the build quality, the look and the feel of the unit. It doesn't have any of the fragility that you might expect, it's big enough to be easy to stand on, and small enough to slide easily under the sofa or sideboard.

The software is a dream. It was worth waiting for, because this is "right first time". It isn't overly complicated - in fact, it's highly intuitive - and it has the same quality feel as the board and the Wii itself. I did consider sending the unit back to Amazon when it informed me that I could, possibly, be a little overweight. I thought there must be a calibration issue until I realised I had a particularly heavy handkerchief in my pocket. No, really. And I have heavy bones. It's genetic.

So, to the killer question: is this a game or a fitness tool? Well, I have spent two days working my way through the plethora of exercises and mini-games and most certainly view this as gymn-membership-cancelling worthy. I have had two half-hour workouts and I could use a little lie down. However, having watched my nine-year-old daughter, it is also a game - or at least, we just spent 30 mins of great fun together. Although I have to say that I stopped laughing when the Wii made my Mii avatar slightly fatter in line with my, er, heavier bones. Cheek!

You could do all this without electricity or a Wii. I could jog on my own, do press-ups, join a Yoga class. By you know what? With the Wii, I can do all this at home, when I want. It's cheaper than a Yoga class, and less dangerous than learning to ski jump like Eddie the Eagle. And it works. It encourages me to set goals and get on with the programme. It rewrds me when i do well and it doesn't snigger at me in the changing room. It adds variety and fun to what would otherwise be a jog around the block in the rain. I can feel it working.

This is a really great piece of kit. It is well thought through, it is high quality, and at 50 it isn't all that expensive. Considering the balance board is going to be used by other games in future as well, and the value for money is even better.

Highly recommended for those of us who (allegedly) need to loose a few (okay, 6) pounds. Highly recommended for those who want a bit of sociable fun with family and friends. Highly recommended for those of us who like a little laugh at my expense when I can't do hula hoop!

Great!!
