1 out of 5 stars Apple Tax   August 7, 2008

New Apple iPod touch 32GB

Bought a very expensive NEW ipod touch. Very nice piece of kit. Not stated that it did not have the latest software update. Now installed at a cost of 5.99.

Apple never cease to amaze me the extent they will go to fleece the punter.
We have income tax and VAT and now we have to pay the "Apple Tax".

5 out of 5 stars A little marvel   July 30, 2008

Believe me when I say I've never gone on-line to write a review for a product before - but this little box of tricks is a real revelation and worth a few words.

I angsted about buying the ipod Touch since the day it was annouced but something held me back - not least the price.

But with the introduction of 32GBs of memory (29GB in actuality) which as a broad spectrum user of music, video and photos was a sensible storage capacity PLUS the addition of the third pary apps (many of which are excellent and often FREE) and the ease of access to a growing bank of films I could hold out no longer.

What a brilliant decision. It really is a joy to use. Technophiles might argue about capacity, degree of audio splendour or any other element of the product that they can find time to pick over.

I'll just say that holding it in your hand (enclosed in a Belkin case) it really feels like we're living in the future!

2 out of 5 stars Only good for music   July 18, 2008

I'm sorry but can anyone explain how to access the Internet and link up to my e mail on this stupid thing. Even in an open access wifi area, Safari won't work. It just says 'cannot link to server' I've tried it in the UK and the US - same result. Do I have a duff machine? And as for linking to my wireless router at home, it asks me for all sorts of stuff that you need a degree in computing to understand. Sorry, it really is rubbish (though a good basic MP3) and I'm sorry I bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding product   July 16, 2008

I have a 32gb iPod touch and to be honest it's perfect, I have just bought the update to 2.0 and it's transformed this stunning media player into a gaming machine and full PDA. 32GB gives me enough room for 12 full length movies, several TV Shows, 1500 songs and still have room for more. The touch screen is flawless and reponsive, the features such as Mail, and the Safari browser make it perfect for surfing the net. Not forgetting that this is the best iPod ever made, yes it's still only 32GB but to be honest it's enough for most people.

Best bit of all, Apple quote 22 hours music playback, well I get 25 hours with little hassle, and Video playback is 5 hours 30 min's. This is an expensive device but it's worth the money in every way.

5 out of 5 stars The Touch deserves its hype.   July 9, 2008

Let me start by saying that the iPod Touch was as good as I'd hoped it would be. And I had high hopes!

My initial concerns were that the touch screen wouldn't be particularly sensitive, the navigation would be cumbersome, the quality of video playback would be poor, importing files would be difficult and the battery life would be limited. I told you I had high hopes! However after having the 32GB version for over a month now, I can confirm that my concerns have been well and truly allayed.

The touch screen is as good as you'll find on the market. It's sensitive to touch without being over the top and what has probably pleased me most, is that even when you're clicking on small links in the web browser, its accuracy is outstanding. Wirelessly surfing the internet is a breeze and the addition of motion sensors to flip the screen and view websites in landscape mode is a real bonus.

Navigating between albums, video, e-mail, internet etc. is perfectly easy, with options to select from artist, album, genre etc. It's not difficult to find your way back to the start or between albums etc. The best endorsement for this is that I've not had to read the instructions yet, it really is that simple to use.

Using iTunes as the primary source of importing music and videos on to the Touch is, again, as easy as you would have hoped it to be. I had a lot of wma files on my computer and even converting these to m4p files was a simple, albeit lengthy, case of drag and drop. There are a number of websites that allow you to convert DVDs and video to the iPod format, which are very simple to use. Again, this did take me some time to convert, although it was worth it in the end.

My first outing with the Touch was on a long train journey to and from London. During the trip I listened to a few albums, watched a full movie and also watched some other videos that I'd put on the Touch earlier. The screen is a good size for viewing movies in transit and apart from the sun shining on the screen (yes, the sun does shine sometimes in the UK) I had no complaints or tired eyes. By the time I had got home, I still had plenty of battery life left.

I can't recommend the iPod Touch enough. To date, I have four movies, a load of albums and some photos stored on mine and it's only about 1/3 full. If you can afford it, go for the bigger capacity as you'll want to take advantage of every single feature that the Touch offers.
