Does what it says on the can June 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Does what it says on the can. Purchased this beautiful black box 6 months ago. I have an iMac. I plugged it in, the icon appeared, I clicked on the icon and started loading. Thats it!
Disappointed June 16, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I needed to back up a large amount of data (large photo files, video etc) & chose Western digital as I have been pleased with previous hardware from this source. However, I can't get this drive to work on the 800 firewire port. It occasionally connects but is unreliable. I have tried two new firewire cards with no success. I now have it connected on the (lower speed) USB 2.0 port. This configuration need no attention and the system "sees" it as soon as I boot it. The backup software is functional and the manual shows how to replace either hard drive. The unit can be configured as a single 1Tb drive or a mirrored 500 Gb drive. As the speed was the main attraction when I bought this unit, I am quite disappointed.
Stay away from 1TB My Book June 4, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
If only I had read these reviews before I bought this... It arrived started ok - left overnight to copy things - well ventilated room and on a hard surface - it died. Got in touch with Amazon who kindly gave me a 10.00 credit on my account. Went to PC world to buy the 750GB which is now working fine. Reckon WD overreached themselves with the 1TB. There is a 1tb WD version which has 2 500gb drives in it which is more reliable - one of my mates has it. WD need to go back to the drawing board...
Disappointing! May 30, 2008 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I brought this device because I already own a Western Digital My Book 250GB drive which is excellent, but this drive gave me grief from the word go! I reformatted to NTFS which took about a minute, rebooted my PC and it wouldn't get pass the BIOS page but as soon as I unplugged the drive the PC boots up as per normal? I thought I could live with this by just unplugging the drive before powering on the PC, after completing transfer of data onto the drive I popped out and when I got back my PC had frozen, thought nothing of it and rebooted, this continued throughout the day and has made my PC unstable! I have already completed my RMA returns application and probably try another brand!
Easy and Spacious May 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Got mine yesterday. Changed the plug from European to UK prongs (they clip off and clip on). Plugged it in. My XP PC recognised it immediately. I reformatted it from FAT32 to NTFS (not strictly necessary if your files are going to be less than 4GB, but I thought, just in case, now is the time to do it). The quick format just took a minute. And it was all done.
In use there is a slight delay if the disk has spun down because it hasn't been used. But pops back to life quickly enough. It now sits happily, with its Cylon-sque blue lights, doing its spacious thing.
