3 out of 5 stars Does the job, but ...   September 8, 2008
This kettle does the job of boiling water and looking good very well, given the price tag and its competition, it more than serves its purpose.

The one snag with this kettle is that once it boils, it continues to do so for a good few seconds beyond where most kettles switch themselves off. As a result if situated under a work surface or sited in a small kitchen, your work units become covered in water or your kitchen turns into a mini steam room ~ which to be fair is easily resolved by opening a window ~ for me this is a niggle rather than a reason not to buy.

2 out of 5 stars disappointed   July 3, 2008
I bought this kettle on the basis of all the positive reviews. It took us months to decide on a kettle (silly, right? ... but researching online and then physically going to see what they look like in a store takes a bit of time). We loved the way it looked, it boiled quickly and it looked pretty trendy without breaking the bank. All good so far ... unfortunately; limescale started forming almost within the first two weeks and about one in every three/four cups of tea or coffee tasted a bit metallic, one cup was so bad we decided to throw it away... it being our first metal kettle (we've always had glass)we thought we'd give it a bit more time to see if it was a "settling in" period.

Unfortunately this went straight back, and we settled on buying a Bosch Brita Filter kettle which was more of an investment but we have had it for four weeks and not a single cup of metallic tasting tea or coffee... relief.

5 out of 5 stars Great value good looking kettle   June 24, 2008
Very pleased with this kettle. Not only does it match with the decor it's practical and has a solid feel. My previous kettle was Philips and is still going strong after 11 years, so I was pleased to be able to buy a new Philips kettle that matches my new kitchen.

This kettle is noisier than my old kettle but it does boil very fast. So far the water quality is fine and have no problem with the taste as reported by one reviewer. There is a water level window on both sides and it is quite large therefore easy check level. The red light to indicate when on is also a useful feature which many other similar style kettles I looked at did not have. The brushed steel version is excellent as it does not mark easily. I took my time deciding and looked at loads of kettles before finally choosing this one and I am very pleased with this choice. It is very good value for money at under 23 and I couldn't find it anywhere on the high street. Would definitely recommend if this is the style you are after.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed...   June 24, 2008

I've just returned this kettle. Now I'm reading again all those fabulous reviews and honestly, just don't understand why people like it so much.
I always trust Amazon reviews, there was not a single time until now that a product with such a high rating could be so disappointing.
My previous kettle was Philips. I've been using it for 6 years at least, so naturally I decided to go for Philips again.
The new kettle looked nice, but that's pretty much all. The edges of a spout were rough, there were some spots inside, and after I boiled water once there was already quite a lot of lime scale. It took quite long to boil water and the kettle itself was really hot. What else? Oh, yes - it's noisy. I lost money on double postage, and yet I prefer to use my old kettle, it's certainly better, just had to clean it well :o).

4 out of 5 stars It's a kettle that boils water   June 22, 2008

There's not much else you need to know - I've owned faster and quieter kettles but this one appears to be well made and it's good value. If you need a kettle and you're on this page, stop faffing and just buy it.
