4 out of 5 stars It will exercise your brain   February 24, 2007
13 out of 14 found this review helpful

One things for sure is that it WILL exercise your brain and you will start to see improvements.

* Inside the PRACTICE ZONE, you can concentrate on a particular area to improve your performance. Here performance is measured by time, so the quicker you take to solve a logical problem, the better you are.

* The TEST ZONE allows you to take a test once a day (maximum) upon which you are tested on all areas of the game. It will then plot your progress on a chart so you can see how you have improved during the week/month. Now this is where the game gets addictive. Once you see your progress you'll find yourself working more competitively to improve your score... and I might add, cause a lot of frustration if you were to go down a bit. Also, you might find yourself competing with other members of your family or close friends because you can see there profile and view their very own progress graph!

PROS
1) It will develop the way you think by encouraging competitiveness - you will try to beat your best score, increase the ratings on your progress chart and/or compete with other people who play the game
2) You can choose what you want to study in the practice zone
3) You have the option to be tested everyday and plot your progress
4) The games are fun and doesn't seem like hard work at all
5) You can have a real feeling of accomplishment and progress when you review your results

CONS
1) The reading test appears to ONLY be measured on speed. So if you read a piece of text in 60 seconds you may get 75% or if you read it in 90 seconds you'd get 55% (estimates). I tested this out as I thought it was a silly way of testing and made a fake result of 18 seconds and scored 525% (or there abouts). SO I don't see the logic in this entirely.
2) There are a few colour dependent exercises that may prove difficult for people who are colourblind
3) Eventhough you may be on level 3 for example, some exercises of the same category like Logic are easier or harder than others. So one Level 3 Logic may be quite straight forward and the other Level 3 Logic may be very difficult. This can be quite annoying when results are plotted on a graph because you may well be very good at Level 3 Logic, but because today you did a 'hard' Level 3 Logic game, your score would go drastically down. Basically - sometimes there are no relations between same-level-same-category games.

All in all a very good game and definately worth the money! There are faults but no real major ones as you can still benefit greatly from doing the exercises. One note though - if you have a hectic lifestyle and very little time to yourself, you may find you play the game for a while and a few weeks later, its gathering dust on your desk!

So buy it if you want something fun to do on a Wednesday night (where you may play once and a while), or buy if you really want to improve your brain (then play everyday or every other day).

The benefits of this game are COMPLETELY UP TO YOU.

1 out of 5 stars not for the colour blind   January 25, 2007

overall i like the tests, but being colour blind there are several that i really struggle with and one that i can't do at all... so it's not ideal for anyone that wishes to do the daily programmes and is colour blind!!

4 out of 5 stars One Proviso   January 18, 2007

This is a reasonable product and quite fun - but not for Einsteins. There is one rather horrid little annoyance (I think) to this PC version, viz., you are forced to "register" before you can install; I assume this is for copyright reasons, which is fair enough. HOWEVER, I found their server down when trying to submit the registration, so I was stuffed for some time. Furthermore, I was asked for some personal detail which I found unnecessarily intrusive and obviously for market research rather than security......

5 out of 5 stars Good fun!   October 2, 2006

This is a simple program, which, as the name suggests, helps to train your brain in various skills, including logic, numeracy, literacy, spacial and memory. There are three different types of task to each skill.

The main feature is the daily workout, which takes about 10 minutes, and involves doing a pre-detemined task from each skill. This is scored on speed and accuracy, and as you get better scores, the difficulty level increases. There is a progress report, where your scores are added to a rolling graph, and it is encouraging to see scores improving (I've done about two weeks worth now, and definite upward trend, albeit with a few hopeless dips!)

Apart from the daily workout, you can practice all the different tasks, which come in five levels.

This is a simple, but fun program, which is likely to have some enduring entertainment value. It's a little like doing the morning crossword / sudoku. At the price, it will be a good Christmas present this year.
